Congrats, Thanks, Good Luck and Missing You

congrats

Good morning!  Well, it’s the last day with the kids at work and no doubt I will get teary eyed handing out report cards at 12:00 today.  We have a lot of staff changes coming up next year so I had several cards to hand out personally to so many wonderful colleagues.  Most of these have been on the blog, but the first one is new.  We have a very funny, classy and genuinely sweet lady retiring after teaching for 36 years.  I think she’ll appreciate the “school” paper on her card.  Inside I stamped “Enjoy Life,” then added “without bells!”  Our lives as teachers are definitely run on bells, kind of like firemen!  LOL  Next up is that card I made for an inspiring colleague…she really is making me want to start my Masters soon.

Next up is for our principal…I added “already” inside.  She is a true educator, not just the administrator.  She’s taken a new position at an inner city school so she can challenge herself before she retires.  How can you not admire that?  Love her and will miss her support and humour :)

Next card is for our librarian…she was also our district’s half time technology coordinator.  Her district position is now full time so I think she’ll enjoy the techie ms a la mode girl :)

This next card was waiting on our secretary’s desk with a little box of Purdy’s chocolates.

Next up is the card for our Music teacher.  She’s challenging herself by going into a 1/2 classroom so she can gain experience at the Primary level before going into administration!  What an inspiration!

This next card went straight to our Learning Assistance teacher.  She is nothing but fabulous and amazing and works so hard for the kids.  She’s the REAL DEAL.  She just got a district reading resource position working with inner city kids to improve their literacy results.  She asked me last week if I would be a reference for her.  It was so easy to list all her wonderful qualities when I was phoned about her.  She has some very big shoes to fill.

And last, but definitely not least is the card for my Grade 2 teaching buddy.  Without her humour, insight and resources, it would have been a very long year.  She is so sweet and so giving :) And she promised me she’s staying for awhile!  I made her double dog dare promise ;)

So that’s the line up!  I really do love making teacher cards.  October Afternoon paper and the My Favourite Things a la modes make it easy and fun!  Thanks for visiting and have a lovely day!  I’m not listing supplies as I did in the original posts so if you have any questions, shoot me an email :)  Cheers!

You’re Old School and Cool ~ CASE Study #97

oldschool

Hello!  I’m back again with this week’s CASE Study challenge.  Sadly, it’s our last week with the super talented Joy Taylor, our June Muse, but she’s going out with a BANG!  I love so many elements on her card this week…

june 28 - 97

I broke out my washi tape, a newsprint stamp and my super cool Hero Arts typewriter.  I follow the lines of Joy’s card for my layout and then just had some fun with seam binding ribbon, typed sentiment and distressed edges.  How about joining us this week?!  Stop by the CASE Study challenge blog for all the details and some more amazing inspiration from the Design Team, then create!  It’s so much fun!  Have a lovely evening and we’ll see you tomorrow for a special school year end post (remember, July 1st is my New Years! LOL). signature

Good morning!  It’s almost the end of June and I needed to make my Jen’s Sketch for You to Try card!  I took the sketch quite literally and kept the stars to make a baby card.  Had some fun with Papertrey Ink’s Star Prints and Fancy Flourishes and October Afternoon paper.  The week’s humming along!  Woohoo!  Have a great one and thanks so much for stopping by :) See you tonight for the new CASE Study challenge!

It’s Your Big Day!

celebrate Good morning!  I had to rearrange a few posts this week to fit this challenge in before midnight tonight!  I’m using the colour inspiration from The Play Date Cafe challenge …black, white and a splash of blue.  This lovely Ocean Princess seam binding ribbon is from Memrie Mare over at Etsy.  I love her ribbon, how she packages each bundle AND the sweet little candy or chocolate she adds to each order :)  The ribbon comes scrunched, but sometimes I like it flat.  The only problem?  Our laundry room is on the top floor of the new house (by the bedrooms) and my studio is in the basement.  AND I only need a few minutes of heat. So meet my new ribbon iron!  flatiron

I can’t remember where I saw this, may have been on Kristina Werner’s blog, but this week I looked for a mini flat iron.  Found a Conair one at the grocery store for $20.00 and grabbed it.  Plus it’s red (flashy) and comes with a little heat resistant travel bag.  It worked like a charm ironing this ribbon.  Now, I know I have to be careful so nothing burns, but all I did was slide it through very quickly.  So fun and practical :)  Hope your week is going well.  Only 3.5 more days!  EEK!

Birthday Wishes to Dawn! ~ PTI Blog Hop

birthdaywishes

Good morning! It’s June 25th!  That means that it’s the last week of work (woohoo!), the PTI Blog Hop, my sister’s birthday AND the lovely Miss Dawn’s birthday!!  I remember making her birthday card for the last June blog hop AND getting to deliver it in person at Stamp-a-faire in July :)  It’s hard to believe it’s been a year!  The colours and embellishments were inspired by the blog hop photo…

ptibloghopjune25dawnbirthday

I tried my hand at paper pleating on the green damask panel.  I’m not a technique girl so this was a stretch for me.  I zigzagged the pleats down with yellow thread.  I’ve been on a dress form kick this month!  For some reason I felt it should be on this card too…and appropriate for the occasion of Dawn’s birthday as it’s her stamp and die!  And because she is such an inspiration to me, I had to add the sentiment on the banner :)  Happy birthday, Dawn!  Thanks for visiting, everyone, and enjoy the rest of the hop…I know I will, I always do :)

Desires of Your Heart

desires

Good morning!  I had the most lovely time in the studio yesterday morning!  You know, those mornings where the errands can wait, the coffee is delicious, and your jammies are oh so comfy :)  I saw  this week’s Runway Inspired Challenge a few days ago and immediately thought of this fun patterned paper in my Lilybee Victoria Park pack.  I didn’t think I’d ever use this very busy pattern on a card, but I think it’s perfect peeking out of a negative die cut!  ACK!  One of my first negative die cuts!  I have seen them forever and admire them so much, so here it is, my maiden cut!  I’ve also used the linen impression plate on this, but my sweet little camera can’t pick up fine details like that.  Either way, I think I’ve captured the spirit of a CAS card :)  Have a fabulous Sunday!

One of My Nicest Thoughts

Good morning!  Ah, Saturday morning, almost as sweet as Friday afternoon.  However, starting next Saturday, I’ll be enjoying the week days  more instead of the weekend.  My favourite days reverse in the summer!  I think it’s because I enjoy the pleasure of being home during the work week…daytime talk shows, checking the mail, going for lunch.  Today’s card colours come from this week’s colourQ palette.  An unusual combination but I tried to make it work with some fun patterned paper and a sweet bow.  That wee sentiment is from Verve’s Small Phrases which is on sale right now over in the Verve Store!!  I’ll have a bit more play time this weekend!  My once cold studio in the winter has turned into the nicest cool place for summer stamping!  Have a fabulous weekend!  See you soon!
