A Holiday Break :)

Hi Everyone!!!

We hope that you are all doing well and had a happy Thanksgiving! Our Cinema Challenges will be on Holiday Break until the New Year - but we will be up and running on January 2nd which is the first Saturday in 2010!! (Wow, that feels so weird to write 2010!) Both Brooke and I are swamped with family gatherings, holiday parties, birthdays and everything in between in getting ready for the holidays - I will be away for 2 weeks and so we thought, we would wait until after the holidays to start our 60th challenge :) We hope that is okay with you - and we hope that you will come back to play with us in the New Year (I for one know that it will be so weird not to check in on the Friday peeks or the Saturday reveal!)

We are SOOOOO thankful for each of you and for those who play along - you are our inspiration to keep this challenge going - thank you all so much for making this challenge so much fun for us!!! Hope that your holidays are merry and bright and filled with family, yummy food, friends and all blessings!

If you are traveling - we wish you safe journeys and if you are staying at home - we wish you lots of rest and relaxation! We have some exciting plans for the new year - so please make sure to join us on New Year's Day for the Friday Sneak Peeks and then on Saturday January 2,2010 as we kick off the New Year with our 60th Challenge!!!

Wishing each of you a wonderful end of year and all joys as we ring in 2010 together!!!!

Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #59 - Shakespeare in Love

Happy Saturday Everyone!!!
We thought that we could kick off the celebrations into Thanksgiving with the 7 TIME Oscar Award Winning Movie: "Shakespeare in Love" (It won 7 Oscars for: Best Leading Actress, Best Supporting Actress, Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Costume, Best Music and Best Art-Set Decoration!!!). Here is an excerpt from to IMDb about the movie: "Young Playwright WIlliam Shakespeare struggles with his latest work "Romeo and Ethel the Pirate's Daughter". A great fan of Shakespeares's plays is young and wealthy VIola who is about to be married to the cold-hearted Lord Wessex, but constantly dreams of becoming an actress. Women were not allowed to act on stage at that time (female roles were played by men too) but dressed up as a boy, Viola successfully auditions for the part of Romeo. Soon she and William are caught in a forbidden romance that provides rich inspiration for his play." There is drama, comedy, the necessary Shakespearean tragedy and simply an array of gorgeous costumes and scenes in this movie - and if you haven't yet seen it - you can watch an edited version of the whole movie on Youtube (start with this link and then click on the next ones for subsequent links for the movie)
Challenge Requirement
Since in the movie - Viola goes out of the box to play a male role - we thought - we could have our challenge be to create something that is out of the A2 box: sooooo, the challenge requirement for this movie is to create a card that is not an A2 (a typical card is A2 (measuring 4 1/4" by 5 1/4") - but if you would like - have fun to create a "shape" card - meaning, it could be a circle, a square, anything at all that you would like!! Or - it doesn't have to be a "card" at all!!

Brooke's Projects inspired by "Shakespeare in Love"
Since I have never seen this movie, I decided to get my inspiration for one of Shakespeare's greatest works - take a guess - the clothing and all the adornment details that accompnained it was my starting place.
Here in Utah - we have a Shakespearian Festival and it is trulya treasure to have this program in our state. This is a festivity that many families look forward to every year and make it a much a do vacation and tradition. This Theater group from Southern Utah University are Tony Award holders because of their excellence. My first memorial experience with Shakespeare was watching the 6th grade production of Taming of the Shrew and Romeo and JUliet was in my 6th grade year. I also found out while reading up on this movie that one of my favorite acrtresses - Dame Judi Dench - received an Oscar for best supporting role. I can't believe how many awards this movie won and I {heart} period pieces and can't wait to find some time next week to watch an edited version of this movie. I loved the challenge this week - I love making vintage inspired projects pieces. Enjoy the movie and the challenge this week!!
And Happy THanksgiving to Everyone!!!
Hugs!!
Brooke

Sankari's Card inspired by the movie: Shakespeare in Love
Hi Everyone! This movie was the first movie that my DH and I saw together way back in the day - and I remembered that I like the movie very much - and wanted to see it again but didn't have a chance to see it till this week!!! :) You can click on the link on the paragraph above for a Youtube link to see the movie online :) My favorite thing about the movie is how they give you references to how Shakespeare got his inspiration - some of it is hilarious - I love the fact that in the movie they suggest that the famous play "Romeo and Juliet" was actually going to be called: "Romeo and Ethel The Pirate's Daughter" (LOL!!!!!)

For my card - what I was really inspired by was Viola's daring to go forth and express her love for the theater by acting - something that women were not allowed to do - and so she disguised herself as a man. Just the fact that she wanted to do something soooo very badly that she was passionate about - regardless of what society told her was acceptable is very inspiring to me - and so for my card -

I created a "Dare to be You" card that is inspired by Viola's Daring but is inspired by Queen Elizabeth's (played by Dame Judi Dench) dress.

Here is my card based of this dress and Viola's daring :)

I had so much fun creating this - and am going to give it to one of my friend's daughter's who is becoming close to a teenager for her birthday (so that she can always remember that even in the highly pressured years of being a teenager - the "coolest" thing that she can do - is just dare to be herself!

I had fun with my out of the box A2 creation and can't wait to see everyone's creations!!!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Hugs!
Sankari :)

Karli's Card Inspired by the movie: Shakespeare in Love
This week we are happy to have Karli of as our Guest Designer. Karli received the Audrey Award for her gorgeous and richly embossed card: Dreams Really Do Come True from the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding: and we are so happy to welcome back as our Guest Designer today with this amazing out of the A2 box - card!!! Karli writes:

"I saw it & I really enjoyed watching this movie! So clever, witty, & fun to watch :) Ok, so my inspiration was the theater itself. I love how the theater experience back then was so personal. There weren't these elaborate sets & props so much of the magic was created by the viewers imagination & the actors' performance. Anyhoo, I was inspired to create a Theater card. It's basically a trifold card created from 8 1/2 x 11 cardstock. The curtains are very dimensional (lots of pop dots!) The inside reads -one of my absolute favorite lines between Will & Philip:
Philip: The show must... you know...
Will: [prompting him] Go on!

That was so classic! I had a blast creating this card for the Shakespeare Challenge. Thanks for letting me play again! I'll be posting all the deets to this card on my blog for Saturday.
Huuuuugs!
Karli

Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #58 - Roman Holiday

Good Morning!!!
We are SOOOO excited today to feature the three time Oscar Winning movie: Roman Holiday as our movie for today's Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge! You know we love the one and only Audrey Hepburn - whose grace, style and elegance inspires even to this day! Roman Holiday was created in 19553 and stars Audrey as Princess Anne, a princess who according to ImDB is a "a bored and sheltered princess (who) escapes her guardians and falls in love with an American newsman in Rome." The American newsman is played by Gregory Peck - and the way they fall in love - and also the way the end the movie is simply sweet.

This week's Challenge Requirement:
We love Audrey's grace and elegance and so for this week's Challenge Requirement - we thought to add a touch of elegance to your cards by adding some pearls (these can be liquid pearls ;) or pearl bling, or pearl brads - anything pearly that you would like to add!

Sankari's Card(s) Inspired by the movie: Roman Holiday
I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this movie - it has Audrey and Gregory Peck!!! Who couldn't love that!!!?!!! I got so inspired that I made two cards!!! The first card is inspired by the scene where Audrey and Gregory take a ride around Rome in the Vespa scene - I LOVE this scene because of the pure happiness on Audrey's face as she lets down her "princess" role and becomes just a "girl" for the day - Isn't this picture of pure happiness on her face - just the loveliest!!!!
I used the Mojo Sketch #112 from the awesome Juleeeee Tilman - I love this sketch and I couldn't wait to use Julee's beautiful stamp set: Wishing You for this card - and choose to pair the "Wishing you" part of the sentiment with the sentiment: "a day filled with happiness" - because it just perfectly captures the feeling of the beautiful day that Audrey and Gregory Peck spend together - my favorite scene is the "Mouth of Truth" scene - soooo cute! I loved the Vespa scene - I downloaded this Vespa image and then I matted it and added dimensionals to give it some pop :) Here is my card inspired by all of those elements:

I also couldn't stop making just one card - here is another sneak peek that I made inspired by Princess Ann wanting to escape being a princess for a little while - hop on over to my blog to see the rest :)
There are so many fun places in this movie for inspiration - from the costumes, to the dialogue, to the characters, to the different scenes. I hope that this movie inspires you and that you play along with us!!!!

Thank you all for being part of our Cinema Family!! :)

Big hugs!!!

Brooke's Projects Inspired by the movie: Roman Holiday

This project is inspired by the colors or rome and the influence of pearls...
While I was browsing one of my favorite craft blogs I saw a similar necklace and had to make one for my self... I used some of my quilt scraps.. This was a great project to make while watching a movie or two..

I have one more project on my blog inspired by the black and white portion of the movie...
so come visit me here.

What can we say it's AUDREY... You know we love that girl.... It's has been sooo long since we have done an AUDREY movie that we were just inspired to do another... My projects are done... How ever they need to have a photo in daylight they are to large for my little Ott light to even make a difference... If you don't see them posted on your first visit please check back. I will try sooo very hard so squeeze them in before I leave town... My projects are not cards.. So don't forget that you can think outside the box here on Cinema Saturday and explore you creative side..
I love the premise of this movie... Princess Ann just want's to be a everyday girl.. She wants to just be able to live and do as she wished with out all the restrictions and regiment that is part of her life... This is just a delightful movie... I can't wait to be able to watch it again from start to finish...
And oh the Irony... The Princess was right there under his nose the whole time.. .Staying at his place sleeping in his bed... You will just have to watch the movie to see all the adventure she has while living a life NOT as the princess...

Can't wait to see what you all create this week...THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL THE LOVE YOU HAVE SENT OUR WAY... You all are so sweet

If you want to see loads of great photos you can check out this sight I found.. Or visit IMDB here.

HUGS
Brooke

Maureen's Card Inspired by the movie: Roman Holiday
This week we are happy to have Maureen of as our Guest Designer. Maureen received the Audrey Award for her beautiful Blossom card from the Legally Blonde movie Challenge and we are so happy to welcome back as our Guest Designer today with this elegant card!!! Maureen writes:

My card is inspired by the lovely Audrey...always classy. So I made a "classy" card with black and cream and a touch of Tiffany blue.

The quote I found that inspired my sentiment was by Dr. Bonnachoven, "The best thing I know is to do exactly what you wish for a while." This week's requirement is to use pearls...I love that!! The perfect embellishment for this card. I hope everyone can play along this week...thanks for stopping by!! I can't wait to see all your cards :)
hugs!!
Maureen
