CLIPS
COMMUNITY LEARNING INCUBATOR PROGRAMME FOR SUSTAINABILITY
CLIPS is a solution oriented programme to guide community-led projects in their initial steps – and for existing initiatives that struggle with problems or simply need revitalisation.
our Community Methods

THE CLIPS MODEL
In designing CLIPS we developed a conceptual model of concentric circles to show complex dynamics and layers found in community projects. Layers start with the relation between the Individual and the Community, and continue with Intention, Structure and Practice.

METHODS
Based on its methodological criteria, CLIPS proposes dynamic methods for group processes, to clarify issues and integrate knowledge that can facilitate the process to which each group is exposed. The methods are adapted to suit the present situation, are ‘tailor made’ for CLIPS or adaptations from ‘sources’. The methods are organized according to the layer they serve most strongly but can be useful in various layers.

SOURCES
Many community and ecovillage people have been trained in different fields and disciplines that they find useful in the community building process. Some of these disciplines have been adopted and disseminated by ecovillages in different parts of the world. The CLIPS methodology refers to them as “sources”, as broad fields of knowledge that form the base of the CLIPS facilitators’ work.

TOOLS
This collection of tools introduce an ‘easy to use’ community tools provided by the partners in CLIPS. They are lighter versions than the CLIPS methods and can easily be applied without prior knowledge. You can also use them without a CLIPS facilitator being present. Enjoy discovering!

ACCREDITATION
To ensure both the growth, the quality and the sustainability of the CLIPS model in Europe beyond the original core group, a defined certification process has been developed. The multicultural and multidisciplinary nature of CLIPS requires an open and flexible approach, at the same time reflecting the need to guarantee a high level of competence among CLIPS trainers.

SELF ASSESSMENT
This self assessment tool shows you graphically where your community is at. See what your community group could look like, where it stands, it´s blindspots and moments of celebration.

THE CLIPS GUIDE
CLIPS is based on learnings and insights from established ecovillage projects. These insights have been distilled into concepts and methods applicable to any group that recognises the value of community. As it was developed, the CLIPS package was tested and evaluated by community initiatives from nine European countries.

THE CLIPS Game
This game simulates the dynamics of groups that work closely together. The frame of the game is the CLIPS model, designed to support group processes by using horizontal management. Players would need to use their storytelling skills as well as performing tasks. The more you use your imagination, the more fun you’ll have!
