Ok, was it just me, or did this mini-series / movie scare the holy bejeezus out of you as a kid?  That crazy looking vampire with those wicked knarly teeth (and I don't mean knarly in a GOOD way...)!   Evidently I missed the remake with Rob Lowe... ummm... was it any good?
