Ready to go and waiting for us slow-poke parents to get our act together.

Getting Ready

Getting their hair and makeup done for the big night ahead.

With New Traditions Like This

...who needs enemies?

Apparently, last year when Noah decided to test the strength of the sidewalk by smashing into it with his skull resulting in a concussion and later a beautiful shiner, he was starting a new Halloween Johnson Family tradition. This year, it wasn't quite as dramatic but the shiner is revealing itself quite nicely. It darkens and the purples become more brilliant as the swelling goes down and the bruising comes out to play. Oliver and his temper decided that going to bed was not an option last night so to prove that he was right and I was wrong he flung himself down dramatically. Well, when he did this he smashed his check and/or eye into the crib rail. I didn't turn on the light, just picked him up, calmed him down and put him back to bed. This morning I went in to find Oliver with a swollen eye (almost shut) and a nice bruise. The only good thing is that I won't have to use as much makeup on the little vampire. Any guesses on who the shiner belongs to next year?

Pumpkin Carving & Painting

We have a ton of those pumpkin carving kits but Noah decided to design his own this year. Then he did the bulk of the carving while Joel did the tiny, more detailed, areas.

Joel and Noah discussing the finer points of pumpkin carving while Oliver completely ignores them for his friend Elmo.

Oliver painting his pumpkin, he was going for the add as many colors to the front as I can look. I think he accomplished this quite nicely.

Okay, this is Noah's painted pumpkin. I know he has a great imagination but sometimes the kid really surprises me. This is what Noah said when I asked what he was painting.

"The black is the color of the sky and the darkness that surrounds the evil. The purple shows the portal that blood sucking vampires, like Dracula, come through when they want to enter our world. And the white is the clouds that curl away from the darkness and portal. That way the clouds make a good frame for my painting."

Noah's design is of, "An alien that died but not quite because the vampires got to him so he's alive again but not really. That is why he has blood dripping from his teeth because he had to drink blood to continue in the ways of the vampire." Are you seeing a theme for this Halloween yet?

My Weekend Getaway

I went away this weekend to the Camano Craft Hideaway on Camano Island. It's about a four hour drive north of here. I went with a couple of great friends, Candy and Stephanie and we met up with my sister, Shana, Aunt Cherie, Jen, Marge and Brenda. It was a great group and our hostess, Lorie, was wonderful. I got a ton of scrap booking done but best of all laughed, relaxed and enjoyed a weekend away from the normal routine of life. Back here at home they had a boys only weekend and it sounds like they were busy and had a great time too. Noah was sad that his boys only weekend was coming to a close but happy to have me home. Thanks to everyone for a great weekend!

Halloween Party

Joel had the boys this weekend and he took them to the Kanthak Karate Halloween party. It was held at Noah's school, Illahee Elementary. The boys said they had a great time and, as you can see, Noah went as Dracula. This is a little preview of Halloween night's costume, he will have makeup on his face for the trick or treating.

Harvest Party

My mom's neighbor owns a real estate company Burns and Olson and they throw a community Harvest Party each year. It costs two cans of food to get in and then you get to eat treats, hot dogs & hamburgers, listen to live music, visit with the firemen, get your face painted, have balloon animals made for you, get a free Harvest Party picture, ride on horses, jump in the castle, drink hot cocoa, coffee or warm cider and take home a free pumpkin. I'm putting this Harvest Party on my annual to-do list!

Phew!

Finally, a new toothbrush sans little brother's ear wax!
