My Little Boxes Full Of Happy - By Lynne Mizera

Hello and Happy Halloween everyone!  Today for my second mixed media project for the Creative Team I thought I would share this little idea that has been germinating in my brain for about two years now ... I am calling these My Little Boxes of Happy!

The size of an old-fashioned match box, the outside is already delightful... but when you slide back the cover a complete three-dimensional scene is revealed that just makes you smile... hence My Little Boxes of Happy

I used the Tim Holtz Matchbox die; Sizzix BigzL #659447 and Susan Weckesser's lovely paper to create my matchboxes.  Susan's paper worked like a dream because it is so much heavier than regular card stock.

The Susan K. Weckesser/Unity Stamp sets I used are the perfect size for creating these tiny 1.75"x2.25" diorama's which, when coloured in and covered in Ranger's Stickles and Close To My Heart's Liquid Glass, look like wee jewels.  A delightful little surprise and so gift-worthy, don't you think?

So thank you for stopping by today to share in this little bit of happy and if you are interested in how these were made you can pop on over to my blog to see all the steps in my process...
Happy Halloween Everyone!

Hope & Faith

I have been seeing beautiful Autumn colors everywhere these days -- fall leaves in every hue imaginable, the many colors of  Pumpkin Spice, brightly colored sweaters and my many favorite Fall mugs !! I wanted to do a Fall project but wanted to use something other than the usual leaf theme. Then I remembered a floral stamp set of Susan's and this project was born !! The words I used are from one of my favorite quotes -- "HOPE  is FAITH  holding its hand out in the dark" by George Iles.

  • I used the Sizzix HobNail Vase embossing folder on a light brown piece of cardstock. This design reminds me of my home - we had a vase and doilies just like that in the house I grew up in.
  • The Hope & Faith words are from the Painted Sentiments stamp set. I used Clearsnap Colorbox Color Pop ink in Sky to stamp the words on a piece of Live in Color paper
  • I stamped the flowers from the In My Garden stamp set onto various Fall-colored cardstocks and paper. The images were all then fussy-cut and arranged into a bouquet for the top of the vase. I adhered the flowers to each other using Tombow MONO Aqua Liquid Adhesive
  • The stamped image was placed on the Left side of the card above the doily and also adhered with Tombow. I used Tombow Foam Tabs to adhere the bouquet to the top of the vase. A few large sequins were scattered onto the stamped image.
  • I mounted the embossed/stamped card front to a card base made of Kraft cardstock. The bouquet extends above the top of the card and looks just like a fresh bouquet of flowers in a favorite vase !! I fussy-cut several pages of these flowers so I have them to use again. I am already starting an art journal page with a few of these !! ( I find that if I sit and watch TV while I am fussy-cutting, I don't snack at all. )

I hope you have been enjoying the month of October with Susan's Creative Team. It's hard to believe that it is almost November and the holidays will be here soon. I have even heard Christmas music in a few stores already !! I will be sorry to say good-bye to Autumn and all of the lovely colors.

Mixed Media Journal

Hi folks, Katy here with my project for this month's mixed media theme. I chose to alter an inexpensive notebook with paints and stamps and a stencil by Susan.

This piece is definitely inspired by a class I took with Kate Crane where we focussed on mark making techniques. Susan's stencil is perfect for this as it contains a ton of different shapes.

How I made it:
1) Paint the cover roughly with magenta, yellow and white paints, mixing as you paint.
2) Work magenta paint through the flower part of the stencil and through some sequin waste.
3) Add zigzag stencilling with yellow paint, circles with white gesso and numbers with black gesso.
4) Add dots in blue. Stamp with lids in white and blue.
5) Stamp the dots in black and the stars also in black.
6) Create a white/blue circle and outline with black pen. Glue a metal butterfly and pen nib to the focal point.

I used these Susan K. Weckesser products:

Jillian Vance Grunge Fun stamp set

Hope you like my journal!

Believe In Yourself Art Journal

Hello all

I am back with another mixed media journal page for the Susan K Weckesser team. The theme on the blog this month is mixed media and one of my favorite themes.

I started off by applying modeling paste around the page using a stencil and then i spritzed DecoArt Media Misters on top. I spritzed water over to dilute the colors.

Next i added more colors using acrylic paint which i painted on in blocks of color. I then used the In Circle Me stamp to add a textured layer to the background. I used a stencil with black modeling paste for the quote and writing. I let it all dry and then added another layer of stencils.

I used the A Little Grunge Love stamp set and used the Clearsnap Color Pop Mini inks to color them with. I glued them down and once dry i went over the top with a stencil to create a textured effect.

I used the A Little Bit Washi stamps and stamped them on to tissue paper. I learned this trick of Susan and this way you can position the images before gluing them down.
