Saturday Colours!

The theatre has been very quiet lately, and I have to question whether I should carry on with the performances at this moment in time. However I shall show you what I made with the mirror that I found in one of my favourite shops.

I used masses of pearl necklace , a lot of Glossy Accents as glue, and the Face stamps from The Artistic Stamper. Patience was a necessary must as most of the beads kept sliding off!

This fortnight's challenge is

COLOUR

Any colour you like on anything you like, a card, a LO, a box, absolutely anything at all as long as it has colour in or on it!

Mirror, mirror....

on the wall, who is the fairest of them all. What a wonderful line from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Tonight's theatre is not Snow White, but a lovely performance from an old friend of mine

Here in her own words is what Caroline says about her altered piece
Hi...I'm Caroline and I've been stamping for over 20 years. I have my own range
of unmounted rubber stamps and card Cut-Outs. http://www.carolinesrubberstamps.com/

Materials:
Black mirror from Ikea (or plain wood painted black)
Piece of A4 paper torn into 4 bits
Daler-Rowney Interference acrylic paints: Blue, Violet, Green and Silver ( or Opalite inkpad Sterling Silver)
Black Crafter's inkpad (and heat gun)
Stamps from: Butterflies 2 Die Sheet DS120C339
Acrylic glossy varnish
Small butterfly mirrors (CaroLines)
Cover the central square mirror with paper.
Scrunch the paper pieces into balls. Use to stipple the paints on to the wooden part of the mirror. Use all 4 colours to completely mottle the surface.
When dry, randomly stamp the butterfly stamp designs over the mirror using black Crafters ink Heat to set the ink, taking care round the mirror part.
Apply 2 coats of varnish and finish by gluing on the small butterfly mirrors.

I have found the most gorgeous mirror in my favourite shop Heselden Hats,( an eclectic shop full of hats and bits and pieces) and am altering tomorrow, so will post later this week.
So the stage is set, and all you have to do is look in the mirror-lol, and alter it!

A little box

The challenge this fortnight is to alter/decorate a box, and as my daughter Aimee came home this week to work on her dissertation, she got waylaid by all the stash in the house, and ended up making more than writing! Grabbing one of my empty cigarillo boxes, her bag of materials, and a bottle of Glossy Accents, here is what she came up with!

I love it, and as far as I know it was birthday present for a friend. Thank you Aimee for being my guest designer this week.

I do hope you have found a box, and hopefully will have time to make something for the challenge. I look forward to seeing your wonderful creations.

All Boxed up!

As usual, it can be any sort of box, cardboard, wooden, metal, cereal, cat food box, any box you wish to alter!

Photo Call

Good Evening and welcome to the Theatre once again. Tonight the *Objet* is a

PHOTO

You can take any photo, family, newspaper cutting, internet, and all you have to do is alter it or decorate it. I took one I found in a drawer of my daughter on her Birthday in 1998, and added my favourite papers, and some grungeboard, and covered her in glossy accents, hence the little dots! These are air bubbles!!!

For those of you who take part this fortnight, there is the added extra of blog candy! Yah! I hear from a corner of the theatre. All you have to do is mention the challenge and the blog candy on your blog , add your altered photo link in the comments, and you are in tit to win it!

It has been one of those kind of weeks, that seems to have stretched from here to there and then back again, and I missed posting the new challenge. So apologies to all, and the theatre will open its doors on Saturday once again!

Potting Shed Productions

Welcome to tonight's performance of the Objet D'art Challenge. Thank you to all of you who joined in the altered book. There were some lovely creations.
Tonight we have another guest designer! Yah! Welcome Hels to the theatre.
Please pull up a seat and may I present to you the

 FLOWER POT!

The pot I used has been lurking in the back of the shed for years and once I dusted it down, I primed it with two coats of Gesso. Once the Gesso was dry, I applied a thick coat of acrylic paint, using a mixture of Ranger Adirondack Willow and Lettuce paints to get the right colour I wanted.
I let this dry completely and then I painted over a thick coat of PVA glue, immediately covering the wet PVA with Ranger Adirondack Gold acrylic paint. As the PVA and the paint dry, they separate and leave a scratchy crackled effect. However, my craft room is really cold so this didn't take as it usually does, so the crackles are not as defined as I would have liked.
For the centre panel on the "front" of the pot, I took a piece of Appletini TSS Metal and using a couple of different texture moulds, I made the flower pattern and the scroll pattern on the metal. Inbetween the patterns, I used a refining tool and hand doodled some squigles which added some depth to the metal. I used a sanding block and removed the raised areas of colour and then distressed the metal with gold acrylic paint, buffing to a shiney finish once this had dried.
The reverse panel has three stamped flower heads also onto the Appletini, embossed in gold and mounted onto card for ease of attaching to the pot.
The stamping around the top and bottom of the pot was achieved by using Ranger Archival ink and embossing to seal the image and the stamp I used was a scroll design from The Artistic Stamper.
Finally, I used my Melt Pot and a couple of silicone moulds I had made, one of a leaf and one of a fancy button, and using gold UTEE, I made several of these little embellies, attaching them to the pot using silicone glue.

Hels, thank you for being guest designer this week, and I am off to find a pot lurking in the garden!
You can do whatever you like with the pot, be it plastic, china, glass, terracotta, a broken one or a full one. Just fill it full of fun and flowers , of course!

Journey into....

my world, of beads and grungeboard ,ribbons, blue, and the most wonderful paper from K& Co! As you know this is the fortnight of the BOOK here in the Theatre. I have to say thank you to all of you who have taken part so far. Absolutely FABULOUS creations! I hope to see more too!

I took a book which I found in a charity shop for 50p, and I destroyed it. Okay, well I took it apart and made a journal whch I aim to fill in the next few weeks, or more to the point, if I was honest, probably in the next six months! I had a lovely time creating it, and got use some of the Ten Seconds Studio metal, grungeboard, inks, and most of all a pad of 12 x 12 paper I had been saving for a special occasion such as this! May I present to you the Blue Awning Book!

This is the book as I bought it, which was a thick child's board book

Then I cut it up and and made the pages and bound it together with the Bind-it-all.

Take a leaf out of....

Welcome to our Theatre of Dreams! Thank you to all who took part in the last challenge, what amazing creations!
Tonight the BOOK is centre stage, and we have a guest designer . Welcome CRISSI! Crissi has created the most marvellous altered book,

and this what she says about it

My name is Crissi Harvey I have been crafting for a good few years now in one way or another. I got into paper crafting about 4 years ago and my crafting addictions have gone from there, I love mixed media, altered art and all things that are a little different. I co run if that's the right word, Arty Girlz challenge blog with my good friend Julie. Im married to mark and have a wonderful 13yr son Harry whom im am just so proud of.

Here Crissi tells us how she made the book

I got my book from a sale at the Library for 50p can't grumble at that can you .

Firstly I found an old photo frame and used the glass as a template to cut the front of the book out, then I covered the front of the book with Golden molding paste, to this I added crushed egg shells and let it dry.
when dry I used red yellow and gold acrylic paints on the cover over the shells and also on the back of the book. when it was dry I covered the whole front of the book with a mixture of Tetrolseal car paint (its the black tarie stuff you use on the underneath of cars to stop it rusting) and turps then used a rag to wipe it back to the paint, it gives a lovely rich colour and depth to the texture. (you can also use a cotton bud with some turps on to wipe some of the paint back on random bits of the shells for more effect if you like) oh and don't panic when you see your work has turned black LOL it will be ok LOL.
I used the card that was in the old frame to create my picture i used the same colours for the background as the book then cut out the image and glued it in place, i used a water colour crayon in black and smudged it around the image and edges I also did that around the cut opening. I then glued the picture to the front page of the book, then glued the glass in to the opening that was cut out previously just ran glue around the edge. I used an old earing for a charm,(just made a hole and used wire) and glued the charm words around the book and added an ivy rubon. Then I screwed 4 screws in to each corner which kind of binds the first inch or so of the book together.
On the inside of the book I covered the first pages with paint ready for when Iuse the book as a journal to keep techniques in.The first is going to be how i made the book!

For those of you like me, when I first altered a book, did I *blanch* at wrecking a perfectly good book! But when I saw what you could do(and there are so many books in charity shops just crying out to be altered), I realised that it was fantastic way to use a book, especially if it had sat on a shelf not sure if it was going to be read! So go find a book, a paperback, maybe a magazine, or a book you will never read, and get those creative juices flowing!

A little interim production
