Halloween

Just in case you couldn't tell since my kids seem to like obscure characters that make people go hmmm?  My boys are The Doctor from Doctor Who (the Matt Smith one who wears a fez because fezes and bow ties are cool) and my older one is Richard Castle from the TV show Castle, all because he wanted to wear a bulletproof vest with writer on it.  He spent most of the night saying "I really am ruggedly handsome aren't I?"

Bow Ties Are Cool

Got that quilt done, so now I am trying to get back into scrapping again.  I don't know where the gusto I had for it years ago went but I want to find it.  It took me two hours to do this layout.  TWO HOURS!!  It doesn't really even have any journaling on it -- granted that was never my strong spot but still...

I wasn't really sure what to title it and really I started off with the little banners just being embellishment but then I decided it would work as a title.  This photo was taken many years before this kiddo learned that saying and where it comes from but it still fits.  :)

I made a QUILT

I normally don't do things like this because I really am pretty self conscience of my handmade stuff.  BUT my kids' school is having their big fundraiser of the year and it is a craft fair and silent auction.  I've worked as decorations chair for the last two years and I am doing it again this year but whenever I looked into the silent auction I was sad that there weren't more crafty type items included since it is a craft fair.  So I decided to try to make a quilt to donate to the silent auction.  I knew there were lots of auction items for girls like a couple of American Girl dolls in the Corpus Christi school uniform and things like manicure parties and stuff like that but there weren't many boy things.  So I made a modern Star Wars quilt.  It is based on a cross stitch pattern that I have.

The quilt measures 50"x52", it was supposed to be square but ended up not because of Yoda's ears being so big.  It is backed in some light blue minky material to be nice and soft!  Wish me good luck, I really hope some one out there likes my style and it can bring in some money for the school!

Fall School Pictures

We got the boys' school pictures back.  I think we are entering those awkward years when it comes to taking photos.

Evan -- fourth grade
He's not even 10 yet and already has his first zit picture.

Ian -- seventh grade
I'm not sure what to say about this guy's photo except, did they ask you to translate the Gettysburg Address into Korean?  This is the same look I get most of the time when I ask him something.  I kind of dislike this look because it is normally followed by HUH? and then eye-rolling.  I don't want him to grow up, I'm not ready for the teenaged disdain for us parental units.  Anyways, he wants to retake his.  We'll see how that goes.

Family Pictures

So the other day I was talking to my sister because they were going to get their family pictures done.  It dawned on me that the last time we had a family picture done was before we left for Korea, which meant that Ian was the age that Evan is now.

We decided to drive out to where the Boy Scouts camped last weekend because Darren said the trees were really pretty.  It was pretty out there but boy was it windy.  I mean we were on top of a hill in between two other pretty big hills and the wind was whipping across our ridge at what felt like 100 miles per hour.  I mean seriously, look at Darren's hair and he has almost no hair!!

This was our first shot, it was 11AM and I knew I was breaking that photography rule of not taking photos right when the sun was highest but I had to take what I could get so I tried to get us in the shade.

After a couple of tries in the shade we moved down the hill a little bit behind the trees.  This is probably my favorite of the bunch that I took.

Then we tried to get fancy and try another pose.

We quickly discovered that we need to look at more family pictures because we weren't sure what to do.

But all in all, not to bad.  I need more practice but that just means that we will have more family photos.

Pack 624 October Meeting

We had our monthly Pack meeting tonight.  We handed out lots of awards and put on some new streamers on our Pack flag.

Evan and Ian helped put on a streamer from 2010 that had been misplaced.

Evan earned his Engineer and Sportsman Webelos pins at summer camp this year.  He also finished up Outdoorsman the other day and was awarded that.

We did things a little different and instead of making a scout into a mummy, the scouts made their den leaders into mummies.  It was too close to call on who one by just listening to the boys yell so we decided we needed to have a little competition to see who our winner would be.

Our den leader mummies had to move a mini pumpkin from where Ian is to the finish line without using their feet.  The boys loved seeing their den leaders doing silly things!!
And they really enjoyed throwing around the toilet paper!!

Webelos Hike DC

The Webelos needed to work on some requirements for their Webelos Activity Pins and we decided to take advantage of the nice weather and hike in DC.  We took them to see the buildings associated with the 3 branches of government for their Citizen pin and the hike was over 3 miles for the Outdoorsman pin.
