The United States celebrates 250 years this July, and the patriotic red, white, and blue is everywhere! From springtime April showers comes festive holiday blooms in support of all the people who make our large democracy so special, and so strong. All the diverse, multi-cultural people who have come from around the world to choose the name “American” over the past 250 years is truly what makes these United States worth celebrating. Every single one of us has our own amazing patriotic story.

I used these beautiful colors and blooms in my Clean and Layered card. To create a little extra dimension, I used tiny bits of foam pop dots to pop out the open umbrella, then fill it with flowers and leaves, creating lots of layers against a crisp, white background.

The winds of November have arrived, and with them come the latest challenge from The Card Concept, Give Thanks! Our inspiration photo shows a lush bounty of gourds and velvety leaves, and I tried to include them in my woodsy scene. I used Autumn flowers and a big orange pumpkin for my Clean and Layered look, capturing a outdoorsy look and feel. Take a look!

Let me begin November’s Card Concept Challenge, Thankful Blessings, by thanking all f you who follow along with The Card Concept, and also follow along my personal blog, Crimson Owl Creations. We are all so grateful for kind, caring, crafty followers who enjoy making the world a little better place by sharing a tiny piece of paper art. You are all a part of my Thankful Blessings.

I fell in love with the rich jewel tones of the inspiration photo. I love the coppers and golds, and the concept of abundance and gratitude for the things we love the most. I created tiny flower pots out of copper foil paper to add that pop of shine to the deep autumn colors and the sweet little bird.

Our September Challenge is Fall Florals, and there are quite a few charming elements to find your inspiration. I fell in love with the color palette, and used vivid pinks, yellows, and blues, with a touch of black, to create this Clean and Layered look. I arranged the flowers to create a sort of “floating” oval shape, inspired by the shape of the hat.

What will inspire you? Create a card that fits our Fall Florals challenge, include our Card Concept logo, and link it up over at The card Concept and your card might be selected as our winner! I can’t wait to see what you’ll create!

I was inspired by Challenge 189a, Cozy Comfort. I love the bold color combo and the beautiful star design. This photo reminds me of my Great Grandmother, Frances, who made beautiful star quilts for all her children and grandchildren. I have seen her flawless star pattern quilts in bright rainbow colors on the beds of all my aunts and uncles and they will always remind me of her.

I used crisp snowy white, cheery red, smokey grey, and black to create a warm and cozy quilted star of my own, for a detailed Clean and Layered look. Now it’s your turn! Create a card in one of our styles and link it up over at The Card Concept!
