hCaptcha is a human verification tool that replaces other Captcha options. It’s fine to run hCaptcha alongside other anti-spam tools like Akismet. However, you should not run hCaptcha and any other Captcha solution together on the same form.

To use hCaptcha with your forms, you will need to create and connect to a free hCaptcha account, then add a hCaptcha widget to your form(s). Details below.

Connecting your site to hCaptcha

1. Login or create a hCaptcha Account

Navigate to Ninja Forms > Settings > hCaptcha in your WordPress admin dashboard. Click the link there to get site keys for your domain.

The link will redirect to hCaptcha’s website and prompt you to log in or create an account. You will then be able to access hCaptcha settings within your account.

2. Get your hCaptcha Secret and Site keys

When you first create your account, you’ll be given a Secret Key. Be sure to record this key in a safe place, and add it to your Ninja Forms hCaptcha settings.

Next, add your site to your hCaptcha account. You will be given a Site Key. Add it to your Ninja Forms hCaptcha settings.

3. Select widget mode and passing threshold

Inside site settings in your hCaptcha account, select your preferred widget mode and passing threshold. The mode and threshold you select here can be changed at any time within your hCaptcha account. The widget mode you select will determine the widget that you use across all forms. hCaptcha does not allow for mixing and matching widgets / modes. All widget modes and thresholds are supported by this integration, but not all will be available for selection depending on your hCaptcha plan level.

[Optional] 4. Choose how the widget will display on your forms

You can change the size and style of the hCaptcha widget displayed on the form in the event that a user is challenged.

By default, the widget will display on the form using hCaptchs’s standard styling and size. These can be adjusted globally for all forms under Ninja Forms > Settings. You also have the option to adjust them per form as you add a widget to a given form.

Add a hCaptcha widget to your form(s)

Open any form and select Add New Field to open the fields window. Click the hCaptcha field under Miscellaneous Fields to add it to your form. Drag and drop it to appear anywhere in the form you choose.

You can optionally click on the field to adjust the widget’s Display settings. By default, the widget will display on the form using hCaptcha’s standard styling and size.

Now Publish (save) your form and Preview or refresh the page it lives on the see the hCaptcha widget on your form.
