A Big(ger) Year for Obscurant
The start of 2022 marks the beginning of the second year of full development for Obscurant. Though development started early in 2020, it wasn’t until 2021 that King Brick Games was founded and we really hit our stride. We have a lot planned for 2022, and…and…
Whoa. Déjà vu. Feels like we were just here? Time really flies in the midst of a global pandemic when you’re creating a video game that operates partially as a response to said global pandemic.
Lucky for you – and horrifyingly for us – that video game is fast approaching release. That’s right: we will release Obscurant in 2022, and you will play it and hopefully like it. A concrete release date is coming soon, but just know that we are shooting for the first half of this year.
As stated before, there will possibly be an opportunity to play more of the game before release, so make sure you’re in the community Discord to be the first to know.
And as ever, make sure to wishlist Obscurant on Steam, and keep checking back here for more development updates, story teasers, and other surprises! (Hmm.)
The Road Ahead
Hey folks, it’s been a minute! Yes, once Steam Next Fest was in the books, we took a bit of a break from incessant website and social media posts. BUT NOW WE’RE BACK, BAYBEE!
And speaking of Steam Next Fest, a huge thanks to everyone who supported us throughout the festival. It means a lot to us that so many people played our demo, watched our livestreams, and joined our Discord. We gathered a bunch of bug reports and feedback that will help us on the road ahead.
And speaking of the road ahead, what’s next for Obscurant? Well, the team at King Brick Games continues to be hard at work on the game. There’s a lot of exciting stuff coming up that will almost certainly be teased on the website you’re looking at right now. Those of you that played the demo might recall a teaser for a certain Kingdom…

And speaking of playing the demo, we may have an opportunity to play more of the game in the near (ish) future. Nothing to confirm as of yet, but certainly keep an eye out in the community Discord for more announcements in the coming weeks.
Until then, this is your friendly neighborhood KBG (King Brick Games) agent, signing off. 🐌

Obscurant Will Be At Steam Next Fest October 1-7!

The team here at King Brick Games has some very exciting news to share:
Obscurant will be participating in Steam Next Fest, taking place October 1-7, 2021!
Steam Next Fest is an online event celebrating upcoming games on Steam. Players will be able to learn about these games, watch livestreams from the developers, and try out game demos. All it takes is a free Steam account to experience the event!
As part of the event, we will have the first-ever public game demo for Obscurant! The demo will be downloadable from the Obscurant Steam store page for the duration of the event. Players can expect the demo to contain a small slice of the overall game showing off unique mimicry gameplay as well as the first glimpse into the story of Obscurant.
In addition, we plan on livestreaming the game throughout the festival. Stop by our stream to watch us play through the demo and chat with King Brick Games team members. We look forward to meeting you!
So mark your calendars now for Steam Next Fest, and get ready for your first look at the game! Keep an eye out in the coming weeks for livestream times and other event information. Hope to see you there! (Virtually!)
Updates and a New Look

Whew, almost the end of August already? Where has the year gone? It seems like just yesterday we were getting ready to kick off 2021. Luckily, we’ve made a lot of progress on Obscurant since then.
Most notably - if you couldn’t already tell by looking at the screenshot above - the game has a new look. After a lot of thought and discussion, we decided to mix things up by tweaking the art style. As you can see, the game now combines detailed pixel art environments with high-res characters and effects. We’ve found that this helps the gameplay elements pop, while also giving the world of Obscurant a unique feel that meshes well with the story we want to tell. The team here at King Brick Games is quite happy with the results so far!
In other news, we are starting development on another new region of the game. This area will feature some of our most ambitious ideas yet: more unique disguises, more world-building and characters, and more ways to interact with the game world. It’s not quite ready to show off yet, but hopefully we will have more to say in the coming months.
Finally, we’ll have some exciting news to share in the next few weeks, so keep an eye out on this website as well as the Obscurant Twitter to be the first to know. 👀
