has narrative length of doom 3 (and barely)
updates broke a lot of content for custom maps
there is free doom content with the same if not more feels for your 'protag against the forces of scifihell antags' available
maybe im biased cos ive played tons of other fps stuff, but this ones iffy, if very polished and pretty

Fun gameplay and decent level design is ruined by the respawn mechanics. This game does not have real checkpoints. I believe that checkpoints are too technically advanced for these devs to implement into their game. The game instead just instantly respawns you at the last activated "Nexus point" with nothing changed in the game world except your location and the restoration of your health. It is like the AWFUL respawn mechanics in Bioshock Infinite, but even worse because you lose literally nothing. I am flabbergasted that the devs thought this was appropriate to put into a game like this. To the point that I actually expect a type of technical incompetency to be the culprit. No one would think this is good game design, so they must be programmatically incapable of designing that game feature. At least I hope it is technical incompetency, rather than an artistic choice. If it were the later case, then these guys should not be designing games at all. If you were to make a design-issue-ratio of How impactful particular design issue is vs. how easy particular design issue is to fix, then this would be one of the worst design issues of all time. This design issue RUINS this game and it SHOULD be trivial to fix. The devs even admitted it and announced a quick save and quick load feature over TWO YEARS AGO. Yet they have not delivered. This might be going from technical incompetence to technical buffoonery. A truly tragic, and stupid, way to ruin a game.
