Here are some hotfixes, mainly to address the issue where the ESC button no longer displayed the menu:

• Bugfix: Menu button not working with the ESC key.
  
• Fixed an issue where villagers unassigned from a building after its destruction were not functioning properly.
  
• Bugfix: Audio from the mine continuously playing.
  
• Addressed an issue where grabbing someone inside a building could result in invisible villagers. I added another check to prevent this.
  
• Bugfix: Decals not cleaning up properly at the end of the day.
  
• Reduced the size of the rejuvenate VFX.
  
• Bugfix: Villagers not correctly searching for resources.
  
• Bugfix: Villagers stuck in a loop while grabbing resources.
  
• Bugfix: All villagers targeting the same resource.

VR Updates:

• Reap scythe power now has the ball behavior in VR.
  
• Repair power also adopts the ball behavior in VR.

This week, I mostly focused on optimization and improving VR controls.

For optimization, it’s nothing huge, but a collection of smaller tweaks that may make a difference, especially on lower-end hardware. I really hope I haven’t broken anything, as I didn’t have time to retest everything thoroughly.

For VR, I completely overhauled the movement controls and some interactions. Movement is now handled with the left thumbstick (you can switch to the right thumbstick in the options). Pressing the thumbstick allows you to rotate—very straightforward.

For VR interactions, you can now play with physical positioning, your hand stays in place instead of zooming to the ground all the time (the old behavior is still available in the options). Grabbing is now performed using the grab button, while powers and flicks still use the trigger button. Many powers now have a fireball-like behavior, where you can throw them around. Unfortunately, I haven’t had time to overhaul all the powers yet.

Everyone:

• Optimized plant growth to limit animations cost in multiple cases like water and rejuvenate.
  
• Added VFX at the center of the rejuvenate power to help with aiming in VR.
  
• Added rotation to the scythe when holding the button during the reap power. Very cool in VR.
  
• Optimized villager AI resource searches.
  
• Clean up and optimized many low level for-loops in the code.

Only VR:

• Implemented new VR movement method Flying using the headset.
  
• Implemented new VR movement method Flying using the controller.
  
• Implemented new VR movement method Teleportation.
  
• Updated tutorial messages to reflect new controls.
  
• Updated VR controls to assign grabbing to the grab button and flicking to the trigger button.
  
• Reworked powers to behave like fireballs, with throwable effects and impacts.
  
• Reworked the reap power to stay put in your hand while active.
  
• VR UI no longer displays while hovering over an object with an active power in hand.

Bug Fixes (VR):

• Fixed an issue where objects were being planted into the ground when using the trigger while grabbing.
  
• Quest dialogues are now visible again.
  
• Fixed VR camera tearing during rotation.

This week, it looks like the pile of bugs for the desktop version is thinning, so I focused on improving some of the existing pain points, mainly around the end-of-day freeze, to reduce it as much as possible.
I also restarted working a little on the VR version. For now, it's not much, as I ease into it. Next week, I’ll have more control rework. Hopefully, I haven’t broken anything while doing so.

Mouse & Keyboard:

• Optimized ground painting process at the end of the day. Hopefully, this will decrease the freeze at the end of each day without significant impact.
  
• Optimized the save process.
  
• Updated locusts to reduce the maximum number of active locusts on the island from 6 to 4 and reworked the VFX to display fewer particles when locusts are maxed.

VR:

• Added a video parameter to tweak the menu size.
  
• Improved menu interaction by implementing fingering.
  
• Fixed an issue with dialogue text display.
  
• Fixed grab behavior in the menu, where the hand would move away.
  
• Fixed VR menu taking too long to display.

This week, once again, it's mostly bug fixes and small improvements, with the notable addition of Santa Claus, as it feels right for the season.

• Added Christmas Spirit Orb to decorate the village with Christmas trees during winter.
  
• Added Santa Claus.
  
• During the Blood Sun event, limited Berserk duration to 1 minute instead of the full day.
  
• Added visual/audio cue for invincible buildings so players don’t waste their time trying to destroy them.
  
• Changed ranch production from meals to raw meat that needs to be cooked at the roasting pit.

Bug fixes:

• Baker job: now the baker and pastry chef are distinct roles.
  
• Fixed issue where villagers working on buildings like the smith would teleport everyone around the building entrance under certain conditions.
