Because we’re adding co-op!

How many players can play together in co-op?

You can play co-op with 2, 3, or 4 players. You cannot co-operate with yourself, sorry.

Do I have to play co-op?

No. Solo play is still fully supported, and probably much safer.

How much of Kaiju Cleanup will be co-op?

The whole campaign will be playable solo or with friends. You must supply your own friends.

What about cross-platform co-op?Calm down, we haven’t even announced other platforms yet.

Why announce co-op now?

Because we've been doing our homework for 2 months to make sure it'll work, and it does, so now we can tell you that it works.

Can I turn my friends into meat cubes?

Of course.

When will Kaiju Cleanup be released?

Nice try.

Today IGN have revealed an exclusive peek behind the curtain with some super-early (it’s so early, seriously, nobody should be looking at this) gameplay footage, showing off some of the features that we’ve been working on (and some photos of our pets).

We’d like to stress quite how early this is. Super early. Any reasonable game developer wouldn’t be showing you this, but those people are boring and we want you to have this insider look. Over the years we’ve always found that honest, open communication is better for everyone. Generally speaking, you probably shouldn’t take what we say too seriously.

There’s so much more in the pipe that we can’t wait to show you. More levels, tools, Kaiju, unreasonable bugs and out-of-the-box ways to meet your own death.

Hi everyone!

We just wanted to take a moment to thank you all for the enormous enthusiasm you’ve shown for Kaiju Cleanup. 100k wishlists in such a short space of time is completely nuts. Your response has blown us away, to be honest, and we couldn’t be happier.

We’ve received a lot of questions, comments, and feedback from you, and a comprehensive FAQ will be posted soon™, but in the meantime we wanted to give you an update on two of the most pressing questions.

We know this is a really important question for many of you, and it’s really important to us as well. The honest answer is that we haven’t made a concrete decision yet (which is why we haven’t advertised the game as having co-op yet), but we are actively looking into it (literally as we type this post).

For a bit more context: several of our core systems, all of which are vital for delivering the fantasy of cutting up a Kaiju, are extremely intricate and technically novel. We’ve been trying to do a few things that haven’t been done in videogames, so getting them to behave correctly is a huge challenge, even without the extra difficulty of making it all work in multiplayer.

Adding multiplayer isn't just a case of time – although that is a factor – but it may also result in tweaks to some of those important systems. The real question is if those tweaks, and the resulting re-allocation of production resources, will have a meaningfully negative impact on the rest of the gameplay. That's the main thing we’re looking at right now.

We’re hoping to have a solid answer for you soon. In the meantime, what we can tell you is that we completely agree about how cool co-op could be. (Personally, I also can’t wait to enjoy the many ways I can dismember my colleagues). If that’s possible to do without compromising what we think makes the game special, we'll try our best to make it happen.

Along with 100k wishlists, we also have over 61k signups to the Kaiju Cleanup playtest on Steam. This is also kinda nuts. Our Discord server has been a near-constant stream of questions about when the playtest will start.

Continuing with our current theme, we also don’t really have an answer for this question either, but it likely won’t be this year. We want to make sure the important stuff (...like co-op, hopefully) is ready for when we put the game in your hands. To be honest, we opened our playtest signups a little early to make sure we had enough players for when we opened it up. Turns out, we didn’t really need to worry about that!

What we can tell you is that everyone who signs up to the playtest on Steam will get an opportunity to test the game. It is also likely that we will be running a much smaller-scale test with players on our Discord server [discord.gg]before the Steam playtest, so we'd highly recommend joining us there if you’re keen to get your hands on a super buggy version of the game ASAP.

There’ll be more info to come soon, of both the normal and Blast-y variety, so please stay tuned. For now though, thank you all. Your excitement means the world to us, and we can’t wait to see what you make of Kaiju Cleanup once we’re ready to open the playtest.

When colossal alien titans run rampant until getting domed by a railgun, the world finds itself in need of a true hero. That’s you: a Kaiju Cleaner who won’t be perturbed by petty concerns like “workplace injury” or “life expectancy”.

After another bastard Kaiju attacks another crowded city, you must use your tools to clean up vast piles of dead monster until the zone is safe for reconstruction. The Kaiju may be dead, but its corpse is leaking radiation, seeping acidic fluids, concealing explosive organs, and generally making the area inhospitable to any other form of life. You’ll probably die as you go about your work, but that’s fine; send another clone, mop up your corpse, and carry on.

Enjoy therapeutic tasks with your own methodology and a selection of helpful tools. Work at your own pace; that giant corpse isn’t going anywhere. Extract and launch Kaiju innards with a meat-wrenching claw, slice them into manageable chunks, slurp up its various jellies, and power-wash detritus until the hazard zone is sparkling clean.

Turn KaijuCorp from a scrappy band of outcasts and delinquents into Earth’s best Kaiju Cleanup firm. Complete missions to upgrade your equipment and customize your base, van, and outfit.

Explore environments the Kaiju have rudely died in and figure out what they have against skyscrapers anyway. Pick apart audio logs, chat with your crew, leaf through an evolving codex of Kaiju research, and enjoy rigorous fact-checking with InfoBlast, a legally-recognised news programme.
