This... did not age well.

Almost 25 years after playing it originally it is just as much fun as it was then. Great classic RPG!

First off let me say that I only got this game to work with steam workshop mods, so thanks to the community for the support, but even then the were several bugs that were apparent as well as two crashes and memory leaking.

The game itself is very old and shows it's age with it's very simplistic gameplay, quest design, and leveling system. Overall I think the game is very linear with few side quests and the only real choice you have in regards to upgrading your character is Magic or Archery, every player must utilize Strength, scrolls, and the end game armor.

The story is nice though with an interesting setting, but both are also simplistic as well. The music, environment, and character designs look cool but again pretty dated. I would recommend this to people who are into old school rpgs, if you're a casual player than I would pass on this.

A GOAT. My favorite is Gothic 2, and I`d say these two games are a must play for RPG fans, but be ready to have to adjust to a less than conventional control scheme and a steep learning curve. Unforgiving in the beginning, you have no idea how to reach your single task, but the sheer pleasure you get from discovering and conquering foes that trampled over you in the beginning is a feeling I've never felt in other games. RIP OG Piranha Bytes, thank you for these gems!

My favourite Gothic of the entire series. The growth of power feels extremely satisfying. The absolute slaugher I unleash with URIZIEL upon all of the camps by the end of the game makes me wonder whether the Sleeper was the actual threat all along. Noone left to escape the colony once I'm through with it and I love how the game was built with this lategame power trip in mind.

This is one of the best RPGs ever made. It holds a special place in my heart. I got this from the dvd of a pc gaming magazine in Greece back in the early 00s, and i was instantly hooked. This is one of the few games that i genuinely felt sad when i completed it because i wanted more.

Yes, it is Eurojank, and has aged kind of badly. It is playable on modern systems, i played it on Windows 11, and you can adjust to it, it is not that bad. It is hard but fair, this is no Dark Souls with their garbage From Software formula of wanting to hit an enemy 500 times while rolling like a madman for 10 minutes, this is difficult but you are given the tools to adjust. You mostly need to be always careful not to draw aggro from enemies that are stronger than what you can handle right now. Eventually you are going to become so powerful that you are going to feel like a demigod in the game.

Honestly, a remake is on the way so if you haven't played it, you might be better off waiting for the remake. BUT since this gets very cheap during sales, if you are into a classic rpg that has more heart than anything released these days combined, give it a shot. It is worth it.
