In case anyone's interested, Unreal Tournament 3 is currently on sale on Steam for $4.99 (about £3 I guess? Can't check UK prices while I'm at work) - but only for the next 8 hours.

Since UT2K4 was such a highlight of the LAN party, I think an upgrade to UT3 is something to consider.

Well, as predicted, the Steam Summer Sale is now on! :)

It's worth bearing in mind though that these are just the standard run-of-the-mill sale prices - it's not impossible that one or more of these might go on some kind of temporary mega-sale between now and Saturday - so it might be worth waiting until Friday night to actually buy anything :)

It might also be a good idea for people to download Hamachi. This is VPN software which allows you to set up a 'virtual LAN' and is something we could use to let anyone connecting from off-site join in the games.

Unfortunately Hamachi can sometimes mess around with your network settings and be a bit annoying once installed, so I'd suggest that if you don't have it installed already, leave off until we actually need it on Saturday - but downloading the software and creating a log-in on their website might not be a bad plan.

Great little 4-player romp that's £9.99 on Steam*. Might be worth grabbing the Cold Strike campaign as well for a couple of quid extra.

Left 4 Dead 2
Another 4-player co-op title (you can also play it as 8-player versus – I'm not that keen on the versus mode, but it could be worth a go). But oh my goodness this is a good game. If you don't have a copy already you should be ashamed of yourself. Go. Buy. It's £14.99 on Steam*.

Dawn of War: Soulstorm
RTS! 40K! Comp-stomping! Go! Well, it may not be to everyone's taste (looks at Vin) but it could be good for a quick blast at some point. Soulstorm is the last version of DoW and has the most races – so probably a good bet for MP action. It's £9.99 on Steam*.

Dawn of War 2: Retribution
Kind of RTS? 40K! Really annoying AI players that back-cap all the points! Yay? But it has the Last Stand mode which is (weirdly) a 3-player survival mode where you each control a single hero. I like that. Do you like that? If so – get and install! It's £19.99 on Steam*.

* There is a rumour that the Steam Summer Sale is starting on Thursday – so it might be worth waiting until the last minute before buying anything from Steam, just in case it goes on sale. Both Renegade Ops and L4D2 have been on hefty sale on Steam before now, so it's certainly not out of the question.
