Hey guys. It has been a long time since the last server wipe (November~) and while we have a lot of big tribes, there isn't a lot of PVP action or raiding going on. I've been throwing some ideas around with Kiety and Oldmate and I wanted to ask for your feedback too:

What do you think would make the server more fun to play on?

When the server started we had a no explosive rule to allow people to get established and on their feet without fear of being wiped the first time they logged off. But now most tribes are into auto-turrets and gigas that rule seems less necessary and more of a hinderance. I was wondering what you would think of changing the rules up so that explosives and offline raiding are allowed, but to prevent total mayhem we install a mod like Offline Raid Protection so that raiding people who are offline takes significantly more resource.

Another idea is to make the server a giga-free-zone (and kill the tamed gigas) -OR- to limit the number of gigas per tribe to say 1 or 2.

Or we could transition from PVP and make it a PVE server with the facility for tribes to declare war on each other when and if they wanted to?

The server isn't being used very much lately and it is taking time to update/maintain/etc. I want to keep it running if there are lots of people using it, but if people have moved on to other servers or other games then it might be time to call it quits. I'll be renewing for another month when it comes due around the 24th~ of the month, and making some changes (like allowing explosives or whatever comes of this discussion) but if we aren't seeing much use in the first half of April then the server will likely close down 24th~ April when the renewal would have been due.

If the server were to be shut down you won't need to lose your base or your dinos! There will be PLENTY of warning before anything like that happens so dinos you wish to keep can be uploaded to an Obelisk. I will also make the server save files available to anyone who wants them. With a little bit of copy/pasting magic that means you can restore the island, the dinosaurs and your base into Single Player mode. Or if someone approached me and wanted to both pay for the ongoing hosting and take responsibility for the updating of mods and stuff then I would be very happy to migrate it onto a host of their choice, or transfer the current server hosting into their name (it is $75/month).

Anyways - first priority is to tweak the server so that we can bring back some fun game play and that is what I hope will happen. I'm only talking about the other stuff so that you know what I am thinking and can plan accordingly.

Please leave a comment with your ideas for how more life can be breathed into the server and once we have some ideas we can make some changes. Equally importantly, if you have limits or ideas for things that you would HATE then post those too so we can find a happy medium.

Thanks for a fun explosive base raiding weekend! As far as I've heard nothing was destroyed that shouldn't have been, so that is good.

In an effort to keep the map clean the server now has the PVP Structure Timer enabled. This means that you can go up to unused enemy structures and press E on them and select DEMOLISH to remove them. You don't get any resources back, but their structure disappears and you can build there if you want to.

The way the server judges if a structure is unused is based on when a member of the tribe was last in render distance of that structure. So if you have a starter base on the South Coast, but your main base is in the Snow, then someone can likely demolish your starter base at some point while your Snow base stays safe. But if nobody in your tribe logs in for a while then everything your tribe has built can be destroyed and your gear can all be stolen. So be warned!!!

I've modified the multipler so that it takes twice as long until you can destroy a structure. On the Sleepy Ark server the timers are set at:

Thatch = 8 days
Wood = 16 days
Stone = 24 days
Metal = 32 days

Greetings! It has been many months since our last server wipe and while there are many active bases, there are also some ghost town bases that cover prime real estate on The Island map. In an attempt to free up space on the map for newer players I am planning to make the first weekend of March (5th and 6th March) a weekend where explosives are allowed against bases slated for demolition.

I don't want anyone to lose anything they care about, so please post your choice of:

A) Your tribe name and that you want EVERYTHING preserved. This means that standard server rules will continue to apply to anything on the map with your tribe name (i.e. none of your structures can be raided by explosives, your dinosaurs inside pens are safe, etc).

B) Your tribe name and that you want most things preserved but there are specific map locations that can be destroyed. This means that standard server rules will continue to apply to anything on the map with your tribe name, EXCEPT the map locations you have specified.

C) Your tribe name and that you want NOTHING preserved. This means that no rules apply to anything of yours on the map including structures, items and dinosaurs from the 5th March 2016. People can do as they wish to you and whatever is left will be admin destroyed on Monday 7th March.

If nobody from your tribe posts opting for option A or option B then option C will be assumed.

Please help me make sure that nobody loses anything that they care about! Please share this announcement with anyone else you know who has played on the [AU] Sleepy Ark PVP Server.

Players who wish to participate in the demolition weekend will be gifted x50 Grenades and x10 C4 (BYO Detonator) but you are welcome to make more. The bases not on the list to be "preserved" will be fair game and you are welcome to attack, pilage and plunder their bases and take whatever loot you can find. On Monday 7th March I will admin demolish whatever remains.

This is your chance to claim a new base location! This will be done on a first-in-best-dressed basis. If multiple tribes want to build in the same reclaimed location then expect a PVP battle to ensue :)

If anything is unclear please ask for clarification. It is hoped that this weekend will clean up the map a bit and make the server more welcoming to newer players. Feedback is always welcome
