It's been a long time since we have communicated anything, but we have big news for you! Our group has been invited to participate in a major team vs. team Arma 3 event! Green will be adding the event to the group schedule soon. The event will take place on Saturday 27 October 2018 at 1630Z.

I'm trying to flesh out a training curriculum for a basic piloting introduction course and more. However, I can't do this alone. The more heads together on this the better. I need volunteers to join me in brainstorming sessions and field exercises to test, practice, and refine the tactics, techniques, and procedures for air-to-air coordination, and crew resource management. This means we get to blow ♥♥♥♥ up in attack helicopters and jets, and even fly two-ship missions and sorties.

Good news, everyone! We've done such a good job liberating the people in the villages and hamlets surrounding FOB Sparta that it's getting downsized and we're being reassigned to a brand new forward operating location. Our new yet-to-be-named FOB is bigger, better, with greater opportunities for civilian interaction, and the chance that we may have to actually defend it from time to time! It even has a mortar pit! Indeed, our new base will be far more faithful to the actual concept of a FOB than our old one. However, if you feel a pang of attachment for our little peninsular housing development then cry not, the operating location henceforth known as Camp Sparta will continue to serve us in a support and logistical capacity for future operations. We've also been doing a lot to the mission file under the hood to improve gameplay and AI behavior, including hooking up a second server as a headless client. All of this and more will go live in the next day or two.

That brings me to my next item: Our training camp on Malden is finally operational!

Green, with some help from the rest of us, has developed a great introductory program that teaches everything from mod installation and configuration, right on up through basic Arma infantry combat skills and small unit tactics in roughly three combined (not consecutive!) hours of instruction, demonstration, and student participation. Whether you're brand new to the Arma franchise or a veteran of OpFlash, I promise you will learn something in the end!

I can also promise that our basic training program (or "boot camp" if you prefer) is not a bunch of us yelling at you in some horrible Full Metal Jacket throwback cringefest. It's not even required for you to play with us, our server will always be open to the public. We are not a bunch of egotistical ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ trying to cultivate an atmosphere of super-serious milsim roleplay. We're just a bunch of guys who love playing Arma in our spare time, and we wanna do it a certain way. If you're interested enough to learn that certain way, we encourage you to hop on the TeamSpeak or hit us up on Steam. We're always willing to set aside our free time to help someone who genuinely wants to learn and become a larger part of our tiny nascent community.

If you haven't heard yet, we have been busy preparing a training map and material for interested members to volunteer for. Green has worked tirelessly on every aspect of the training area and campaign, without any assistance from anyone at all. Graduates from these training sessions will be granted TeamSpeak flair and role priority appropriate to the certifications issued. Additional provisions may apply.

The curriculum and training material, as well as some of the mission scripts, are still undergoing some preliminary testing and refinement in closed sessions between TacSalmon leaders and ground floor volunteers. If you're interested in helping us develop and refine this process, let one of the admisn on TeamSpeak know you want to volunteer as a student.

We're considering trying out the Vietnam Unsung mod for Arma 3 in the near future. It won't replace the current Hearts & Minds mission file, that will remain the de facto game mode. We just thought it would be fun to try a Vietnam-themed campaign one day when enough of us get together.

If you're interested in playing with us, you can get the Unsung mod from the official webite at http://www.armanam.eu/.

Additional mods won't be required, except maybe TFAR if it's compatible. We'll know more once we've actually implemented the necessary files and performed some preliminary testing.

That's pretty much it. Nothing further to report at this time. No events are planned yet. The next update to the main mission file will probably follow the impending release of the Laws of War DLC[arma3.com] so we can take advantage of some of the new vanilla assets and Eden Editor features[dev.arma3.com] to further customize and tailor the player experience.

One final note, if you haven't explored the group page very much you may have missed our Training & Doctrine (TRADOC) Library sub forum. It's chock full of interesting videos and guides that explain various aspects of warfare, with a focus on individual and small unit tactics in the context of Arma 3. If you know of any material, or wish to write/record something yourself, that you believe would make a good addition to the TRADOC Library (e.g., on the basics of land navigation), please notify myself or another administrator and we'll review the submission for publication.
