Early Access Review
A game that could have been good but the developers just can't help but continue to push the game in a worse direction. I wish I could like the game, but it is not in a place where I could at all recommend people to get it.

- Progression in this game feels awful, finding upgrades is just a terrible experience and very often will you just not find an upgrade for many many levels, and the few times that you do it'll most likely come from the vendor which kind of defeats the purpose of a game revolving around loot.

- A majority of the skills in this game just feel and perform bad. Others require you to combo together 5 skills before they perform half decently and even then the payoff just isn't worth it. This game also completely lost the sheer amount of build customization that made Path of Exile 1 what it is. Skills are all locked to a specific weapon type, you can no longer choose a skill and build it in a variety of different ways utilizing different weapons for different results. If you want to use a skill, there's only one weapon type that you can use it with, leading to all iterations of that skill boiling down to almost the same build.

- The campaign is an absolute slog to get through. It is unbelievably long and filled with maps that are unnecessarily large that feel like they are just this way to try and pad the campaign's playtime. On top of this, you have to replay this entire campaign for every character, of which the first of every league/update will be a fresh experience without any gear making it even less bearable. Yes Path Of Exile 1 is the same, but the campaign there is not only shorter, the progression in that game actually feels like you're getting somewhere throughout as opposed to this game where that is just missing. On top of this still, due to how the skill gems are tiered, you're essentially going to have nearly the same leveling experience every time you level a new character of a certain class due to the horribly limited number of skill options at early levels.

The latest update (0.2.0) even decided that they needed to cut down on player power across the board while leaving monsters just as fast and powerful as they were before which just doesn't lead to any sort of good experience. Some things in this update just have me questioning how anyone could possibly think these things were in any way acceptable to put into the game in their current state. And that's not to mention the horrible crashing and performance issues. I crashed well over 50 times in the roughly 3 hours I played at launch.

Maybe one day this game will be the game it was promised it would be, but that isn't likely to be anytime soon. The "vision" needs to drastically change if this game is supposed to be a fun experience.
