Tokyo Ghoul[1][2] (Japanese: 東京喰種-トーキョーグール- Tōkyō gūru) is a science fiction manga series by Sui Ishida that was serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump magazine from September 2011 to September 2014, with the collected chapters published in 14 volumes.
A sequel, Tokyo Ghoul:re, was serialized in Weekly Young Jump from October 2014 to July 2018 and collected into 17 volumes.

A 12-episode anime television series adaptation by Studio Pierrot aired on Tokyo MX between July and September 2014.[3] A 12-episode second season, Tokyo Ghoul √A (pronounced Tokyo Ghoul Root A), aired from January to March 2015.
In July 2017, a live-action film based on the manga was released in Japan. An anime adaptation based on the manga's sequel, Tokyo Ghoul:re, also aired in two seasons: the first from April to June 2018, and the second from October to December 2018.

Ken Kaneki (Japanese: 金木 研 Kaneki Ken) / Haise Sasaki (Japanese: 佐々木 琲世 Sasaki Haise) - the protagonist is an eighteen-year-old first-year student who becomes half-ghoul after receiving an organ transplant from a deceased ghoul, Ridze.
After the operation, Kaneki realizes something strange is happening to him when it comes to eating food: he's against normal eating, so he realizes he's become a ghoul when he learns he received the organs of the girl who died next to him.
Kaneki tries to hide his ghoul identity, attempting to live a normal life, but eventually finds a job as a waiter at the Anteiku cafe, which supplies ghouls with human flesh.
He has adopted several of Rize's characteristics: his ghoul left eye, his regenerative powers, his inability to digest normal human food, and his kagune.
Until he met other ghouls, he considered them cruel creatures and believed that if he wasn't fully ghoul but no longer human, he had no place in this world. Kaneki enjoys reading books and is generally quiet and reserved.
He's overly trusting of strangers, which often puts his life in danger. He wears an eyepatch over his left eye, revealing his ghoul traits.
After the battle between Aogiri and the CCG, Kaneki left Anteiku and founded his own ghoul team, having discovered his purpose in becoming a half-ghoul.
In the second season of Tokyo Ghoul √A, Kaneki told Tohka he was leaving Anteiku and heading to Aogiri.
After leaving, he began working with Ayato and was nicknamed "One-Eyed" by investigators and the press.Kaneki was ultimately defeated by Arima, after which he began a new life with no memories of his past.
Kaneki's new identity is that of a First Class Investigator in the CCG, a mentor of the Quinx Squad (under the supervision of Akira Mado and Kisho Arima), and a part-time member of the Mado Special Forces.
Haise appears to be a reliable, good-natured, yet self-sufficient partner who takes an interest in his work. He is devoted and loyal. Haise loves to care for the Quinx, respects them, and promises to protect them.
Sasaki, like Kaneki, enjoys reading books in his free time, is very friendly, and prefers to work and achieve success in the CCG with his group rather than alone. When Haise and Mado were at the Naan restaurant, he revealed his habit of "wordplay".
Haise also has a habit of scratching his head when he's embarrassed, uncomfortable, or unable to find a solution. Because of his soft-hearted nature, Haise often runs into problems with subordinates who, in difficult situations, cannot rely on him and ignore his orders, fearing for their own safety.\
Despite Kaneki's earlier embrace of his ghoul identity, Haise struggles with it: he feels disgust for his ghoul side, despite repeatedly trying to embrace it. In combat, Haise is often quick-witted and possesses strong deductive skills.
In fact, Sasaki wants to learn about himself and regain his old memories, but he fears that because of this, he may lose his new friends and the memories of them.
During the battle at Tsukiyama's headquarters, he regains his memory and finally remembers everything.
Midway through the season, after a battle with Suzuya, he transforms into a large centipede (called a dragon) formed from his Kakuji, which subsequently separates and the heroes fight with him for almost the rest of the season. By the end of the story, he leads a peaceful family life with Tohka.
