I'm normally weirdly picky with games and don't tend to enjoy smaller games like this, but I decided to try it out after seeing MoistCritikal playing it. I looked it up to see if they added other endings, saw that they did, and wanted to give it a go.

Even from watching someone else's gameplay, I felt the game did the dialog well and it was simple but still charming in what it was going for. I may have been biased at first, watching someone I find to be funny playing it, but now playing through it myself I still enjoy the game pretty much the same.

The gameplay itself can be a tiny bit buggy, I've had a couple issues when I've alt-tabbed and once the knife got stuck under the gutting board so I had to blindly shake my mouse around hoping to gut the fish, but a little bit of jank isn't wild to see in a small, few dollar game, and it wasn't super constant or even all too frustrating. If you're unlike me and *don't* have a chronic alt-tabbing habit, you realistically should be fine. These issues only happened after I tabbed out and tabbed back in several times. The game also loads super quick and doesn't have any drawn out, unskippable scenes so even if you have to restart it's really not all that bad. Just wanted to mention it to be honest with my experience (thats the point of a review afterall!)

The game itself doesn't have a whole lot going on; it's simple, but I think it does "simple" well. And, even with its simplicity, it's still got a few little secrets that are interesting when you discover them.
The dialog, as mentioned, I find to be charming. It has a clear goal and tone it's trying to set, and it is successful in what it's going for. It's not drawn out, filler or fluff or anything like that just for the sake of dragging out the playtime, as I find many games do, which tends to ruin them IMO. Here, what's in the game is there for a reason. Even if the reason isn't profound, it still makes sense as to why it's there, and it doesn't bog other things down.

For a game of its length, it's managed to hit that balance between being short and to the point, but also making sure there's substance in the game. Especially for a game that's meant to be replayed to get the different endings, that is very much appreciated. I'm not annoyed about restarting or having to play the entire thing over to get those other endings because the thing is just quick, concise and fun enough. It doesn't take itself too seriously, it knows what it wants to do and does it. It doesn't try to make the story it's telling deeper or more complex than what it is, it just tells it.

If you like shorter games like this in general, I think this one is worth a go. The story isn't this profound, innovative tale, but a simple moral story we've all probably heard a million times delivered in a clean, straightforward way that's still fun to listen to despite having heard it before.

Plus, the devs seem to be pretty chill and that's always a bonus in my eyes. Speaking of, check the content warnings they have on the storepage, cause the game does mention a few grim subjects that you might want to avoid.

I saw a video for this game's demo a bit before it released, and was super excited to get it when I finally had the spare money for it. Plus, it was on sale. The entire concept seemed to mix several things I love, from the use of a historical medical system, anomaly detection, logical problem solving mechanics, eldritch horror and fish people. However, I haven't even finished the game as of yet. It falls flat on literally everything it attempts; the story telling is both too fast paced and too slow, the game play loop is just so boring, and nothing happens. Three hours of nothing happening. Well, besides me, AND my friend who I was streaming this to, trying to figure out the poorly explained mechanics which the game doesn't even give you a moment to try and figure out on your own, which is needed from the essentially useless in game explanation.

Even when you think you got the hang of it, a few patients later you'll be proven wrong and have no idea where you went wrong. You either ignore the mechanics given and get it right (lucky you!), use the mechanics and have them actively ♥♥♥♥ you over and kill a patient, use the mechanics and don't kill the patient but still have to send them off half way sick because you ran out of your humours trying to guess what random doeses were needed, or use the mechanics and get it right!

Which is the issue; there is no consistency. The only consistent thing is how boring this frustrating loop becomes, and how much the game feels like it rushes you towards... nothing? I guess?

Then, the story feels so obvious but has no progression at all. Again, in three hours of playing NOTHING happened. I haven't finished the story but, let me guess; weird eldritch fish cult is turning the island people into fish creatures? Oh, and sprinkle in the most generic interpretation of weird dream ♥♥♥♥ and odd hallucinations that can be found in any run of the mill eldritch story. It just tries adding every single trope it possibly can instead of actually creating an interesting story. It also does the entirely unecessary BS of hinting at some sort of body horror, forced impregnation garbage with the mystery medication you're given. Because of course, how else are you going to make a game 'disturbing' other than specifically targeting women's bodily autonomy and the horrors of pregnancy and abuse related to it when it adds nothing and makes zero sense?

This game has almost no uniqueness, and then fails to expand upon typical tropes seen in strange fiction, meaning it falls short. It doesn't deliver on any of the interesting concepts it taunts you with.

I don't really have anything revolutionary to say, rather, just want to confirm what many others have stated already. great game, fun to play, wonderful story and atmopshere. The DLCs are worth it IMO, but the game's totally enjoyable without them. It's inspired future TTRPG's I'm gonna be running that's for sure.

If it wasn't for the fact that a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ ex gifted me this game, I'd have had way more playtime on it. Must say though, the experience of this game was the only good I got out of that situation lmao

I feel like most of the negative reviews are as negative as what they are because, as is common, the expectations people put onto a game does not end up meeting the reality of what that game is offering. The gameplay is shown clearly, there's no deception about what it's supposed to be; a shorter, simpler crafting game that's there to suppliment a simple story. And, I think it does what it's trying to do well.

Not every game has to be some over the top, huge production. Some are meant to be simple, uncomplicated, and easier or a bit more relaxing. That's what this game is, that's what it wanted to be, and I believe it, again, did that just fine. If you want more in depth gameplay or a more wild story, go play a game that is offering that. If you want a game that's smaller and not meant to be some extravagant adventure, then this one is worth a go.

I had this game sitting in my library for some time and hadn't played it. I had bought it on sale I believe, and found out it was from a Canadian company and decided to buy it just to support a smaller project from a team super close to home. A couple weeks ago I was scrolling through my library, just to find a small, quick game I could easily 100% for the sake of adding more perfected games to my roster.

Admitedly, I spammed the ♥♥♥♥ out of the F/skip dialog; I just wanted to finish the game. I thought the art style was cute but wasn't super interested. Though, as I played, I did become more interested, and will be replaying it to pay better attention to the story's details.

Like I said, this game's art style is cute, I enjoy it. I also like the sound direction; I almost always turn the music off in games as it makes it very easy for me to become overwhelmed, but the music here wasn't overbearing, which I appreciate, and it doesn't ever clash with the ambient or UI sounds, which is common for me to feel in games.

Even with me rushing through and probably missing a bunch, there's a lot of tiny details in the world that show there was thought and time put into this game beyond just making it functional, which is kind of rare the past few years, even when this game released in 2021. Mild spoilers, but some of these details came up in quests in ways I really didn't expect. They weren't huge and flashy, but it was a moment of "oh, I'm so glad I paid attention to that! That detail actually meant something!" when one of those details would become relevant.

The game's layout in terms of its areas and navigation is good too. Some areas were a tiny bit confusing, but the in game map is very helpful and once you've scurried around an entire area, shows you almost everything.

The quests weren't difficult, but they weren't boring either. They're there to suppliment the story as opposed to being the other way around, and they do that job very well. Dialog isn't very muddled down either, but isn't too brief or dry, it's a comfortable balance. There's some moments that require you to be a tiny bit more clever, but again, not in any dramatic or obsurd way.

When it comes to collecting materials or figuring things out overall; as long as you take the time to read, you should have little trouble. Even with me not reading a single instruction, I managed just fine mechanically, and with the quests and resource gathering.
the game also isn't super grindy. If you're like me and hoard materials, you'll likely gather enough of some of the more common materials to last you most of the game by the time you're about half way through. Resources respawn quickly, and once you get the hang of things, are easy to go and collect.

Even when I had to go back and fourth between areas a few times, it's not tedious or exhausting like it can be in some games. The items I found myself hurting for the most and getting the most annoyed with when I needed them were water and milk jugs, but if you're better at planning than what I am, then you can stock up a bit more earlier on.

Another thing I appreciate in this game is how it keeps all of the areas it introduces relevant and necessary. Of course, some resources become less needed, either because they just come up less or you've stockpiled some by that point, so you go back to earlier areas a bit less, but you'll still need to visit them, and their importance to the overall story and progression feels well integrated. That's one thing I dislike with some games, is once you're done with one part, areas introduced early become irrelevant, especially when those areas are actually interesting. That's not the case here, and it's done well, like I said.

Overall, this game has a cute story set in a well done little world, brough to life with a delightful, simple art style. It's calmer, not grindy but still good for those that enjoy easier resource gathering and crafting in their games. It's not long, it took me a little under 10 hours. If you're taking more time to actually read and appreciate the game as you play like I should've done my first time, then I'd say it may be 11-12 hours, tops. If you're really good at planning ahead or are just super fast at these kinds of games, it's totally doable in under 10 hours. I recommend shorter sessions. It's very heavy on 'fetchquest' style gameplay, but if that's the kind of game you enjoy from time to time, then I think this will be enjoyable.

It's got enough to be interesting, while not being bogged down with mundane or tedious filler. I really enjoyed it, even though I had to do no actual achievment hunting to perfect it. That's the only thing I was hoping for that it didn't provide; at least one or two little achievments you'd have to go out of the way for
