Greedfall 2 has all the makings of a great successor to the first game: fantastic questlines, engaging narrative, and an interesting roster of characters. However, its combat falls unbelievably short of the first game, which didn't even set the bar very high.

They've moved away from the original's system of parries and dodges to a new version that relies on letting your character make "auto-attacks" to fuel a resource you can spend to use special abilities. This boils down to watching most of your party stand still and hit things over and over, while you jump from character to character, pausing combat to queue up special abilities, using up their action points, and moving on to the next character. I'd do anything to play this game with the original's combat, because the new combat system is a massive chore.

TLDR: The game is fantastic in every facet but combat. Unfortunately, that combat is such a slog it ruins the appeal of everything else by extent.

Every new patch worsens stability and introduces countless new bugs, from broken pelicans, busted new stratagems, explosions pulling inwards, fire not working, and now unable to properly respawn, the number of letdowns from this game only gets higher. The game play loop is lots of fun, but I'll wait for a different company to release a better version.

Greedfall makes me hopeful for middle-market games again

Played 4.3 hours of this and have probably only made about 2 hrs of progress. This game crashes more than my fcking roomba and then loads you back in 3 provinces away. The waterfalls and lighting effects look stolen directly off a PS2 game, even on ultra on a 1080. If you're looking for a good JC game go buy three. This ain't it chief

Still got some work to do, but with the NEXT update we can tell they're doing their best.

This game is so artfully done, Hopoo really outdid themselves on this one. Level design is great and the music and gameplay is really atmospheric.
