This game has a very good set of bones. The core gameplay loop is incredibly satisfying and the initial look at pvp is incredibly fun with the VoIP being able to be heard by both teams. Coming from tarkov this game reminds me a lot of the early days but it runs much better and has a lot more content. In its current state I think it’s definitely worth the standard edition if you enjoyed Arma 3 exile and liked tarkov gun modding/ammo system. If you’re unsure about it I would give it 6 months and come back they definitely released sooner than planned with certain events happening recently. I can understand the move and they did well to mitigate some of the problems that come with early releases.

I wanted to give it a try since it was on sale however the game has a game breaking bug that causing the AI to never actually finish its turn. It happened to me three times in a row around turn 5 and I cant seem to find a fix or explanation on why its occurring. To me thats a deal breaker and I will be refunding this game and probably never looking back. Even when it did work the unit AI and pathing is so jarring and janky you would often lose entire units just because they seem to race towards danger and then pace about whilst under machine gun fire. Also the combat in this game just amounts to "arty trench, bum rush with a thousand dudes, win the melee, arty next trench, bum rush with a thousand dudes, win melee, and so on and so forth...." which is i guess representative of the times but they executed it in such a boring and uninspiring way. You could have had so many different units or trench types to combat the repetitiveness and make the battles much more interesting but it seems they opted for the simple and boring option. Hell this game doesn't even have persistent battlefields like they claimed which is a MASSIVE L. The battlefields always reset and you always start off with having to cross a massive no mans land every time no CQC trench v trench fighting because infantry seem to have a gentlemans agreement to only shoot each other when they are outside trenches which just doesn't make sense at all. Overall the whole thing was just disappointing as I really want a WW1 strategy game that has total war elements mixed in but this one just missed the mark entirely.

They have come a long way since release. At first I was mad and thought they were abandoning it but they have kept at it and proved me wrong. The multiplayer drama sucked and I wish it was free but alas that is not the case however the game itself is great and the ship building is fun and satisfying to watch your babies go out and destroy your enemies.

God the combat in this game makes me want to die. You cannot have a simplistic combat system like this if the AI can completely ignore the entire thing. Lets say you want to attack an enemy and in the time it takes for you to begin your swing and connect with your target if that target decides to do a red attack or yellow attack it will instantly counter your attack and then deal full damage to you! Just because you didn't have the foresight to anticipate their attack 2 seconds in advance. Absolutely horrible feeling combat when you're constantly getting punished for ♥♥♥♥ that is impossible to foresee or deal with. Oh and lets say you decide to play defensively and wait for a yellow or red attack and then just counter attack.... good ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ luck with that because those don't work half the time either. So the way the game works red attacks have to be dodged and yellows have to be blocked pretty simple right... WRONG because half of the red attack are impossible to dodge and if you do dodge them the attack INSTANTLY happens and you lose full hp... you would have been better off just running away or just blocking and taking reduced damage. Oh and don't get me started on the yellow attacks those are the worst because the window to perfectly block these attacks is narrow which is fair however the enemies all have different types of attacks that have these different windows you need to block in to parry which is also fine, the problem is you CANNOT see or hear any indication of when that window is. Sometimes the window to block is when the yellow first appears sometimes its right as soon as the yellow disappears sometimes its mid swing animation sometimes its ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ after the swing like it makes no sense and there is no way to learn when to parry other than getting killed over and over again until you get lucky and find the sweet spot. Overall the combat just feel ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awful and is completely ruined by cheating AI and forced to be played way slower than it should be because you cannot do anything other than block or dodge the instant that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ yellow or red symbol appears and ♥♥♥♥ you for even trying to do anything but play this dumpster fire of red light yellow light green light of a game.
