Early Access Review
I picked this title up in June of 2022, I played about 10 hours of it and it was a blast. Obviously at that point it was still very early in development, and I don't believe the developer had gotten help yet. After those 10 hours I kind of lost interest, mostly due to the fact that there isn't much to do outside of the tavern keeper loop, and that gets kind of repetitive eventually.
I returned to this game last week to see what's changed. I can confidently say that it's seen major improvement, and the vision the new dev's have for the game is quite reminiscent of Stardew Valley and I mean that in a positive, not saying it's a rip off. The town is very cool, the design is beautiful, and it's clear they have big plans for that location. There are some balancing tweaks that are needed (like feeding your cat/dog seems extremely overpriced without a way to feed them with tavern food). I'm excited for what's to come.

Really well done MMO, if you like Starwars & MMO's this will likely suck you in.

Bioware did the story, the voice acting is pretty good, not the best but defintely more than you'd expect from a MMO type game.

The Story, the voice acting, the cosmetic options, RP multiplayer, and general Starwars Vibe make this a 10 out of 10 for me. I've played since the release, and have no regrets for coming back time and time again.

The modding community for this game alone is why after 9 years since release, this title still draws me in.

Total war modding has always been a staple of the TW community, but Attila takes it to another level. Likely the last truly epic historical total war, and it plays unlike any of the other total war titles. It's about survival. That alone makes this a unique one for TW. Though Shogun may feel more polished, Attila feels grim, dark, and medieval in a way few games capture.

The Medieval mod makes this essentially Medieval Total War 3, which I love, but really for me the mod that shines is Radious. From the unit additions, to the quality of life fixes, this mod really cranks this game up to 11. Playing as the Western Roman Empire, or Eastern Roman Empire, is a game about surviving marauding hordes, managing religious strife, trying to avoid plagues, balancing complex politics, diplomacy, as much as it is about waging war on a truly massive scale. Cavalry is king in this game, so if you like seeing heavy horsemen slamming into infantry, this game is for. If you like managing a disaster, this game is for you. If you like the sound of playing a Lord of the Rings total war game, that's right this is for you.

Buy this, try the mods, learn the game, then try playing vanilla West Rome on Legendary at least once. It's torturous but it's a gauntlet that will make you a worthy Emperor/Empress

I write this review in retrospect in honor of the Steam Awards, this title was a strange experience, and I've decided it should be nominated for the "Sit back and relax" award.

My reasoning is simple, every AC game tends to be a little grindy, you want that specific outfit? Go collect all these specific collectibles to unlock it, gather resources etc. Yet, for Valhalla, the grind was kind of the best part, whereas in other AC titles you are so immersed in the story, that the grind is jarring, even immersion breaking (I'm looking at you Blackflag), in Valhalla, the grind is beating areas to loot all their loot, essentially being a viking is the grind. I love it! The story was interesting enough, not as good as Odyssey or Origins, hell not even as good as Unity's story, but it was better than Syndicate at least. Bassim was the star of the story, despite not playing him till end game, which makes Eivor's story just feel a bit shallow and unfulfilling. But the gameplay is S+ I don't care what anyone says, it's fun as hell to be a big scary viking ravaging the British monasteries. The story might be subpar, the freerunning is a little subpar, but the joy you can get from raiding and larping a Norse God is underrated. 8/10 title overall, 10/10 for personal enjoyment.

What a game. I really loved it back when I started in 2014. And I kept coming back for more. I kept spending more. And then they kill the game and tell the players "Don't worry you can just re-buy everything again in our new game made in a new engine using cheap community assets! + We need 3mil to even consider releasing the game," ♥♥♥♥ you TLM. This is the biggest insult to gamers I've seen since the EA lootbox fiasco. I won't be giving this company another cent. Eat a ♥♥♥♥ Jake Hawley.

I have to say that after a hundred hours, I can honestly say that this game is one of the best I've ever played.

My opinion may not be the end all be all, but I regard this game in the same tier as titles like Skyrim, and the Witcher, and I might even say I enjoy Odyssey more. Let me break it down:

The setting is 10/10. Who doesn't want to roleplay ancient greece? It's stunning, the attention to detail is second to none. Details down to locations producing specific products that would have been historically produced there, even though it has 0 impact on gameplay. You can hang out with some amazing historical figures like Socrates, Perikles, even Plato! And more recently upon purchasing the DLC's you can also intermingle with the God's. I really loved the contrast between Elysium and the Underworld. I love the mystical / mythical vibe this setting gives off.

The Gameplay is 8/10. I tried using a controller, and it was just awkward. It feels designed for mouse and keyboard, but even using mouse and keyboard feels unnatural. After a few hours in Odyssey, any other game feels like an adjustment. But besides the controls being a bit hard to get used to, the overall feel of combat is very nice, your character is pretty manuverable, and as is typical in most AC titles, the free running is key. Between the controls being funny and the free running, game play loses two points in my mind. The free running is just worse than other AC titles I've played. It's good, don't get me wrong, it's just not as fluid as titles like Unity. Maybe I'm just a sucker for the old freerunning mechanics though?

The Story is what makes this game one of the best. I've never been so engrossed in a games story in the way I was and still am with Odyssey. I literally can't stop thinking about it even when I'm not playing it. I think about it while I'm sitting at work even. It's immersive, it's dynamic, it's fluid, and it's not too hard. It's a game that has a decent amount of challenge and options for min maxing, while still being easy going and relaxing. It makes the story almost addictive. The boss battles alone will have me playing Valhalla next just in hopes that they are 1/10th as good as Odyssey. But the Lykonian wolf can suck my ass.

I highly recommend this to anyone who has ever had a greek mythology love, ancient history interest, or the Percy Jackson series made you horny. If any or all of those apply to you, you will love this game. 10/10
