I wanted to love Total War: Warhammer 3, but after dozens of campaigns I’m done waiting for the basics to work while Creative Assembly coasts.

The AI is still broken. Sieges are the worst offenders: units pin-wheel at open gates, bunch up at ladders, and refuse to climb or commit. Pathfinding routinely collapses, turning epic set-pieces into clown shows. Campaign AI isn’t better—it beelines across the map to suicide into the player, abandons its own provinces, and makes nonsense diplomatic decisions that only exist to harass you rather than play the same strategy game I am.

“Fixes” arrive years late and feel like the bare minimum. We’re still getting betas to rework siege fundamentals in 2025, which says it all. Every patch dials a few numbers, breaks something else, and punts the core problems to later. Meanwhile, content cadence slowed and focus drifts to DLC headlines instead of delivering a competent opponent.

The DLC strategy broke trust. Price hikes for smaller packs, walk-backs after backlash, and long waits for “make-good” updates made the whole thing feel like revenue first, quality second. I don’t care how many new lords drop if the AI can’t path through a gate or make sane campaign choices.

If you’re here for a power-fantasy sandbox with mods and self-imposed rules, you can squeeze fun out of it. If you want a strategic campaign with working siege AI and opponents that play by sensible rules, this still isn’t it. Thumbs down until CA fixes the fundamentals instead of selling around them.
