Netherlands
The states of New England have a combined area of 186,458 km2, making the region slightly larger than the state of Washington and larger than England. Maine alone constitutes nearly one-half of the total area of New England, yet is only the 39th-largest state, slightly smaller than Indiana. The remaining states are among the smallest in the U.S., including the smallest state, Rhode Island.
American Civil War
The American Civil War was a war fought from 1861 to 1865, to determine the survival of the Union or independence for the Confederacy. During the 4 years of combat, over 600,000 Union and Confederate soldiers died. The American Civil War was one of the earliest true industrial wars; railroads, the telegraph, steamships, and mass-produced weapons were employed extensively.
