My honest opinion on Red Faction Guerrilla has a short and long answer.
(I implore you to read both but that's up to you)
Tbh this is more me glazing the game rather than reviewing it, so don't expect anything well written here.

Short answer:
I love Red Faction Guerrilla cuz you get to blow everything up, story is neat but could definitely be expanded upon. Hammer go bonk.

Long answer:
I wholeheartedly love this game, I have for many years. Ever since I first played it on the Xbox 360 many years ago. Over those years I've learned the ins and outs of this game, mastered every weapon, driven across the bumpy and windy terrain of mars, remembered the whole plot, road network, location, enemy types, hell, even the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ vehicle spawns. I know almost everything there is to know about this game. From Parker to Eos. All the ♥♥♥♥♥♥' way to orbit. And I can confidently say there is no other game like RF:G. The unique destruction physics, the numerous ways you can destroy every building, car, storage crate, EDF barricade, wall, you name it, I can name 10 ways you can wipe it off the face of mars. The vehicles have much to be desired since you're really just going to choose the fastest one to get around and the biggest one for ramming into buildings. Sure you got some tanks, APCs, armored cars, even ♥♥♥♥♥♥ mad max buggy ♥♥♥♥-mobiles that look like you gave someone a bike and said: slap as mush ♥♥♥♥ to this as you can. Anyways, what was I talking about?

Oh, right. Red faction guerrilla has been stuck in my mind for years and for good reason.
Red faction guerrilla (a game from 2009 mind you) has the best and most immersive destruction physics that I have ever experienced. The just cause series may have it's moments but NOTHING will compare to Red faction guerrilla's ability to give you TRUE freedom to take down that building the way YOU want to. You can use a sledgehammer, remote charges, thermobaric rockets, explosive barrels, a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ TANK or your moms SUV. It's all up to YOU in Red Faction Guerrilla, YOU get to choose what mission you'll do next (if you even want to do the missions) YOU get to decide where exactly you'll place that remote charge and YOU get to decide if you want that cool jetpack or the ability to place 4 extra remote charges and most importantly YOU get to experience destruction at it's finest. Volition truly created a timeless game. One that has shown us that destruction in videogames doesn't have to be locked to a cutscene or in the case of battlefield 4 special building destruction sequences that are really just interactive cutscenes but you can still jackoff in the corner if you so please. Red Faction Guerrilla may not have the best story, environment or gunplay but it still holds near and dear to my heart as one of the best sandbox games I have ever experienced. Over the years I have learned that you don't need all of these fancy graphics or insanely good stories. Although I do like me some good story, good gameplay is what makes a game truly special in my eyes and Red Faction Guerrilla gave us gameplay that we will never forget. Volition gave us something of such high remark that I don't see anything being able to compete with Red Faction Guerrilla for a LONG time.

Moving onto the actual review. Red Faction Guerrilla doesn't have the best story, it's map is mostly empty besides a few buildings off in the distance or the AI driving around. It has a horrendous driving quirk where if you hit even a pebble your car will just float off into orbit which can get annoying when you're trying to do time trials but besides that the gameplay is very fun, the ability to remove each individual piece of a building until it crumbles is a truly unique mechanic that really gave this game the notoriety it has over the years. While I do agree that the game is buggy and crashes it rarely happens, even on my ♥♥♥♥♥♥ 4th gen intel CPU with INTEGRATED graphics. I can comfortably run this game at ~30 fps on lower graphics WHILE a building is being torn apart by 12 remote charges. Back on topic, the people at volition really put their heart and soul into making the destruction as organic and natural as possible. Vehicles tear away the very concrete encasing the support pillars and rips apart the walls bit by bit. Everything that looks like you can destroy it with nothing but a hammer and a lot of effort probably can. Now, the AI may be annoying when you wanna blow up that stupid checkpoint, sending wave after wave of masked grunt and omega legionnaire that the game will allow. However IMO fighting the AI with all your wacky tools is half the fun! Throw a remote charge on an EDF grunt and watch him break it down. Blow that gunship to smithereens with a well placed nano-shot, Blast an APC full of soldiers apart with a thermobaric rocket. You can even stun enemies with a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ lightning gun thingy-mabob so you can crush their skull with your sledgehammer. There truly are no limits to what you can do with your arsenal. Sure you got your run of the mill firearms but who wants those? I want proximity mines that send some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ grunt to andromeda! I want to have a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ROCKET TURRET MOUNTED TO A GARBAGE TRUCK FOR GODS SAKE!!! I WANT TO DISSOLVE THE VERY MATTER OF YOUR DINKY LITTLE SCOUT CAR WITH MY NERF RECON MK.II THAT SHOOTS ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ GATORADE OF ALL THINGS!!! Rant over, I need to make this review actually not just me glazing every weapon in the game. So I'm gonna end this review with this: This game may have it's ups and downs but I'll always come back to it whenever I'm bored. I will never hate this game even with it's annoyances and whathaveyou.

If you've made it this far then thank you for reading this and if you have the money, please give this game a try. It may be repetitive, it may be difficult, but it is truly something that I believe you should experience.
So please give Red Faction Guerrilla a try, if you don't like it then tell me why. I want to know how I can help you enjoy this game. Again, thank you for reading through this. It truly means alot to me.
