One of the best games I've ever played in terms of story, atmosphere, visuals, sound, and tone.

I cannot recommend it due to the recklessly implemented "Mission Select" feature that irrevocably resets your game progress with very little warning. I now know there is a jukebox in the AWE DLC that lets me replay missions without consequence. I wish the mission select screen had suggested that alternative before letting me erase dozens of hours of work with a single button. This is dangerously poor UX design and does not belong in an otherwise nearly perfect product.

This was one of the best games of all time.

In 2016, Valve implemented a fundamentally broken matchmaking system to try to make the game more similar to Overwatch. But TF2 is not Overwatch. Trying to emulate your competitors only alienates your core audience.

That matchmaker killed the spirit of the game and made it possible for cheating bots to dominate lobbies. Getting rid of this matchmaking system and returning to the old quickplay format would be the easiest first step towards making the game inaccessible to bots.

TF2 is timeless. Or at least it was before Meet Your Match ruined it by turning it into something it was never meant to be. The only thing keeping it from returning to its core identity is Valve's ego.

And of course reverting to quickplay is not as simple as flipping a switch. But the alternative is the "treadmill work" of a perpetual AI-fueled arms race against botters with infinite time on their hands, which Valve openly refuses to participate in.

Valve, you don't need to do that insane treadmill work. Just start by reverting the game to quickplay and see how much the bot crisis fixes itself.

At least give it a try.

FOV feels about 80 and there is no way to change it. Refunded until this is fixed.

Otherwise, stunningly gorgeous and captivating world design. I look forward to buying it in the future if they can fix the FOV issue.
