Excellent strategy / rogue like (semi-lite?) sort of game. Although the way the game is formatted makes you feel like you can go fast, the puzzle of trying to balance objectives, citizen lives, and avoiding loss conditions keeps you from having a lead foot with regards to making decisions. Not a quick game, but a rewarding one as you work your way through it.

I'm not a hardcore 40k fan, so take my recommendation with a lump of salt! I enjoyed the game, and if you've got a friend or two to play with, I'd say run with it!

Gameplay
Having not played Space Marine I, my opinion doesn't reflect how II evolved from that game. To me the bulkiness of the Space Marines reminded me of playing Gears of War, with a little less run-and-gun, and more leaning into run-and-bash, which the health / armor mechanics encourage you to lean into. If you do take on some difficulty when you play, just note that you will need to be very situationally aware, or ranged / melee enemies can destroy you with some ease. For context, my friend and I played on the 2nd hardest difficulty upon launching the game. There was the rare bit of frustration, but we powered through!

My main tip for folks just jumping in and not familiar with 40k: "Mortal Wounds" indicates your final time being downed before the next down will be game over for everyone. If you find a "Guardian Relic" be sure to not use it unless you have to. Upon being downed with Mortal Wounds while in possession of a Relic will have you get back up and clear the Mortal Wounds, buying you more downs.

Theming / Story
The game was fun! Although the game is linear and pushes you through the story at an even pace, the details taken to really dunk the player into feeling like a part of the cultish existence of being a Space Marine was layered on nicely -- not too heavy (for what it is) and not too light to be just a background element. Lots of the little details and dialogue pieces in between set pieces reinforce or inspire curiosity about the world; I've learned at this point that the lore is very, very, dense and I'm quite thankful to have a friend who has soaked themselves in it to describe some extra tidbits to me while we play.

At this point I've only finished the campaign (co-op w/a friend) and doing a cursory amount of PVP (with that same friend).

Technical Issue
In my current 12 hours of playtime, I've only had one serious bug happen to me once. I believe this happened when I was alt-tabbing, and the game locked up to the point in which my keyboard wasn't responsive and I had to reboot the game. The plus-side is that any progress that my friend continued to make while I was dropping back in was still awarded to me.

The versatility of TTS along with the huge community behind the workshop make this pretty much a must-buy. It's easy to find a game, sub to it via workshop, and get playing with your friends.
