My Thoughts on Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is extremely immersive is unlike any RPG I’ve ever played. The realism in the graphics engine, the craftsmanship of the world, the scripting, level layout, and 3D modelling are all on another level. The dynamic interactions, voice acting, and authentic regional accents really sell the setting and time period. Even the slang and terminology feel historically correct and enrich the experience.

Most quests feel like believable events you’d expect a knight, vagabond, bandit, or mercenary to be caught up in during that era. Yet they’re still woven seamlessly into the main narrative, keeping things engaging without feeling repetitive. I genuinely felt like I was building a real rebellion with actual people whose stories mattered. The tragedies that happen to some characters are genuinely impactful, and I found myself forming strong attachments to the friends and allies I made along the way.

You connect with Henry so much more in this sequel. His backstory hits harder, and this game does a great job showing his growth and maturity from the first game. For reference: I put almost double the hours into this compared to the first. I was shocked to see nearly 80 hours on my save before even reaching the second region. There’s just so much to do, and all of it feels immersive.

The new weapon-crafting and forging system is incredibly fun, realistic enough to match the time period but gamified just enough to avoid being tedious.

Combat is a bit easier this time, which is good in some ways; you can actually take on multiple enemies without the clunky feel of the first game. But sometimes it feels too easy, perfect ripostes can trivialize fights. Some added randomness or variety in fighting styles might help, so ripostes aren’t always so powerful. Still, the improved lock-on system is worlds better, making multi-enemy combat more fluid and less janky.

Cutscenes have improved massively. They feel far more cinematic, natural, and expressive than the original. The animations, staging, and amount of detail in each scene make the storytelling far more engaging.

As for DLC: in the first game they were hit-or-miss. This time around, it seems like Warhorse is taking more time and putting more care into each one. They’re still not Witcher 3–level expansions, but they’re looking stronger and more substantial. Hopefully future DLC continues scaling up.

The first game already did so much right, and this one expands on nearly every aspect. In my opinion, KCD2 deserves Game of the Year. I absolutely recommend it, and I’m excited to replay everything again in Hardcore Mode once all the DLC drops.
