This game has a lot of promise and potential. I'm a massive From Software fan and have played all of their Soulslike games since Dark Souls 1. Elden Ring itself was awesome, but hard to re-play in my opinion as there was way too much stuff to do and it was very open. I was a huge fan of the randomizer mods and challenge runs, and I think Nightreign turning the game into a randomizer roguelike was an awesome idea.

But now we come to the problem. The game does not feel satisfying to play a lot of the time. I've gone into so many games, killing field bosses and the central fort bosses to get dagger drops and useless guard counter buffs when playing a Viking. I've gone entire Recluse runs without picking up a staff that didn't cast Glintstone Pebble by day 3.

Other Roguelikes give you a sense of building towards something. The ideal run is rare in Nightreign, when you get it, it feels really fun. But the ideal run is rare in every roguelike. What a lot of roguelikes do that Nightreign doesn't is actually giev you viable options and ways to build your character that still work. Nightreign's randomization feels completely gimped sometimes and it feels like I'm going into Day 3 as powerful as I was at the end of Day 1.

Heaps of potential here, but the fun runs are really rare and I feel cheated whenever I need to fight a boss hitting it for 1% HP every hit because nothing synergised at all from everything I looted on the run.

I can't recommend this game in its current state, it feels pretty bland, boring and even aggrovating. Of my ~30ish games I've only had about 2 games that I REALLY enjoyed where I felt powerful because every single boss dropped something that actually helped my build. The drops need to be tweaked and some of the buffs feel completely useless for some characters, there should be limitations on what characters can be given. I don't see the point of daggers on Viking, why does the final boss on top of the fort drop two of them for me on that run?

Melee is also frustrating when you've got your other party members spaced out and the boss dashes across the arena every attack out of your range. Ironeye and Recluse usually feel the most powerful (especially with some recluse spells) because they can stay very agressive, but 90% of the time I'm playing Wylder, Guardian or Viking I'm running towards the boss to watch it leap away again by the time I close the distance.

Please fix this game, it can be a lot of fun and has a lot of potential but it absolutely sucks in its current state.

I think this 20-second video tells you everything you need to know about the game:

This game was awesome... Aside from a photo puzzle from the fifth chapter that made me scratch my head and throw in the towel to find out that I wasn't the only one - you'll know when you see it. Would recommend.

Waste of money - game's too short (completed in under 7 hours, including roughly an hour of my "playtime" being sorting out technical issues with frequent crashing).
Waste of time - story's a mess and gets super corny towards the end.
Cool concept, not enough of it - The thing that piqued my interest the most about this game was the real/spirit world split and allowing yourself to see both worlds at the same time and having puzzles separating your spirit from yourself, unfortunately this is barely done throughout the game, every time it is done it is extremely satisfying. The puzzles are also relatively straightforward.

In short, cool concept, meh story, wait for a sale; whatever you can justify spending cash on for a game that's roughly 6-8 hours (I finished the game in roughly 6, and most of the reviews posted here have play time generally between 6-8 hours, I can't imagine the game taking more than 8 hours for any reason, I collected everything and got 37/39 of the achievements in my 6 hours).
