Il start this review with a simple question: What sets Hedon appart from other boomer shooters? theres a ton of factors that go into this question. but number one i would say is simple: world building.

the environments in Hedon not only feel like fantasy, but there own spin on the take of what fantasy can be. and seeing the ending to chapter 2, im really excited for how much they stretch the concept of what can be done with it.

its not just how the world its built, its how you as a player interact with it. the notes you find all over each level, arnt just to give lore and depth to the world your in, they tend to reveal how to find secret areas to further give you bonuses to help you in your journy through the levels. theres a reason to pay attenion, to take the world in and discover how it all works.

the gunplay is solid, the soundtrack is a slapper. my only issue is with how the graphics can be a bit... ugly? take the dwarf corpses, they are simply tilted to the side with some blood put on them. (simplifying the issue but its how it feels)

took me a day to finish this game, and im hungry for more. i intend to play through on two of the more uniqe difficulties just to re immerse myself into the world of Hedon, because its not just a boomer shooter. it feels like a adventure, mixed in with the good old shooty shooty bang bang we love.

if your looking for a game where it isnt just shooting hordes of enemies constantly and clearing rooms, this game may be for you. it does do that, but its woven into the gameplay along side its foundations.

The problem with this game is that it feels like a mobile game. there isnt much interactivity, its just endless wait timers. waiting for minions to train, waiting for them to go on missions, waiting for the mission timers to tick down. if there was something more interactable with the game, more mechanics based on actuly being a evil genius, then perhaps it would be more worthwhile.

After having played scorched earth, defeated the alpha Manticore and done most things in this map.... i cannot reccomend it unfortunatly due to a simple fact:

They say this DLC is finished.

To justify what i mean by this is simple. there are parts of this DLC that seam very unpolished, or just downright ridiculous in nature. by Unpolished, im refering to a lack of a ending to this dlc. with abberation its simple, defeat the boss, it leads to extinction. this DLC lacks that. it just kinda... exists. having a ending to this map, similar to any of the others would certently give more credence to the progression.

Then theres the Caves where the relics are, and this is what i mean by ridiculous. in two of the caves i have noted loot spots that are litteraly IMPOSSIBLE to get too. with one of them costing all of your gear if you dont cheat to get it back. in one of the caves, there is a massive pit in the artifact room. but sometimes, down in the pit on a, what seams to be accesible ledge, is a red drop spawn. (meaning rare loot) however, the kill trigger for the pit is litteraly a few meters ABOVE where the drop is. Instant death pits in games like this suck in general, especialy when you cant get your stuff back. but to bait players to a kill zone they cant see coming is just downright disgusting.

in another cave, theres a mural on a wall next to a bridge. infront of the mural spawns a loot crate. no death pits this time. but... the crate is impossible to get too. as a invisable wall stops players from even getting close to touch the mural... im sorry but why the smeg is there a invisable wall there? it exists purely to just tease players.

these two were the most aggregious examples i could find of unpolished nature of this dlc. its a shame because theres lots of good stuff to enjoy in this map. the setting is beutifull, the creatures to tame are pretty neat. but it lacks the polish needed to say its actuly done.

if this map were to be finished up and the kinks work out of it? i would change my review. but as it stands... skip it and go to aberation.

So because Master mode is literaly GARBAGE, i recomend People pick up a much better, more worthwhile difficulty mode. and fortunatly, this Provides it!

go and download this, and the calamity mod, (along with the music pack, as the soundtrack is brilliant to go along with it.) and play on revengance mode at the least. it has vastly more effort put into it then master mode did.

oh uh... yes, modding support is good. yes.

This is more a post to adminpwn. the lead dev of this game. you recently asked for your fans to leave positive reviews to help bolster the game to a mostly possitive rating. im ok with this, but do note adminpwn, you abandoned this project for months after it failed on launch. you return to it and have shown quite alot of care and attention in wanting to make it better. i hope this continues as, being a fan of the first game, i had high expectations for this game, and was sevearly disapointed when you packed your bags and returned to the first game.

but now you have returned, and showed that there is not only a future for this game, but it may turn out to be quite something. so il play ball adminpwn. il leave a possitive review, in the hopes this game continues to shine.

you could have done anything to let players at least enjoy the game. have a host option so you can play with some freinds. hell, even single player. instead, you left it to be always online on servers that couldent hope to handle the inflow of people.

you should have done yourselfs a favour and delayed it to next year, because you have ♥♥♥♥♥♥ your game royaly.
