This game is so much fun. I'm going to break down my review into a few main reasons why YOU should play this gem.

1. Friendly New-Player Experience.

This game does a great job teaching new players the basics, and everything is clearly outlined so that everyone of all skill levels can play and have an enjoyable first-time experience. Nothing is too hard to learn in DotA, and you always have a supportive and understanding team to guide you every step of the way.

2. Great Matchmaking

The matchmaking is so great in this game. The best part is when everyone picks carry, so you know that you have the late-game in the bag. This makes for a great experience because either you will lose quickly in just 15 minutes, or win after a rewarding 90 minute game of sharing lane creeps and jungle camps. Sharing is caring.

3. Amazing Community

Everyone who plays DotA should win a Nobel Peace Prize. The community is supportive and friendly, and if you are playing a hero for the first time everyone will understand. Sometimes the encouragement is overbearing and you might need to compliment them back. The best part about the DotA community is getting teammates who both play and sound like a real-life gorillas, because everyone loves to have teammates that play the game as if their mouse and keyboard are disconnected. When that gorilla plays mid or carry, then you really know you've won the game - the way they fight over everything such as creeps and neutral items leaves you proud, because then you've realized they are a strong and independent player who will carry you to victory. Lastly, your carry will always play around their wards - and the game is never lost because they walked into a dark jungle and died with no buyback after a grueling 2 hour game. These scenarios never happen and you can always count on your team to play together and play well, and never waste 2 hours of your time because of a simple mistake like having no buyback at 120 minutes.

4. Fair and Balanced Games

DotA is the most perfectly balanced game in the entire world. There is hardly any patches because of how fair and balanced the game is. I've heard people speak of the META in other video games - but there is no such thing here. You will never have a game that is lost in draft where you have to encourage your team to not AFK in base before 0:00 crying. These scenarios never happen, and when you play DotA you can play any hero in any role you want - because playing boring heroes you're uncomfortable with just because they "counter" enemy draft is never an issue. Additionally, other games have problems where players snowball and become strong early, and the next 30 minutes is spent pleading with your team to not cry and quit the game. That is not a problem here, everyone plays the game to win regardless of the scenario or how dire the situation may be. Lastly there is never ever a situation where you spend 1 hour defending your high-ground because the enemy will kill you if you go outside of base, but also don't push your high-ground so your team is stuck doing nothing. These things never happen and there is always an opportunity for you to play DotA 2 instead of waiting in base until your hair turns grey and you grow a beard.

5. Perfect Early Game

The first 10 minutes are glorious in DotA 2. If someone doesn't get their role, they will not pick Legion Commander and jungle from level 1. They will not pick Zeus or SF and share mid, even if you called it first. There are no basement dwelling Spirit Breakers who camp mid for the first 10 minutes. There is ALWAYS a support to help stack and pull early game and they will not nuke your creepwave with Illuminate. No one will pick Natures Prophet and teleport into enemy fountain. Additionally, there are no carry players who die once in lane at minute 2 and go jungle because you pulled a creep-camp after using the "Pulling lane" chat wheel. Lastly, there are no Techies pickers who AFK in the trees and plant bombs in trees and base for 120 minutes, and instead they will teamfight with Blast Off and use Stasis Traps for disable. Players in DotA focus on making sacrifices for each other and will play a role even if it means they are not comfortable with it, so you know your early game is in the bag.

Overall Consensus:

This game is amazing and you are lucky to play it, especially if you solo queue. The experience is great for new players and rewarding for DotA veterans. There aren't any fundamental flaws that will keep you from coming back. And the individual skill cap is so high in DotA 2, that you can play Pos 5 support and solo-carry your team to victory with 40 kills even if your carry is AFK jungling for 45 minutes with their team muted. I'm so glad I spent 3,500 hours learning to play this game, because even if I get 4 toxic teammates who bicker and destroy items, I still know that I can solo-carry as a Support main and I don't need their help at all. Winning a 1v5 in DotA is not an issue and can be done easily even if your team abandons in ranked. I would suggest this to all my friends and family, and be sure to buy DotA Plus to support the creators.
