Early Access Review
You bought ULTRAKILL for the fast-paced movement, intricate gunplay, fun boss fights and the banging soundtrack.

I bought ULTRAKILL to hear funny ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ man voice the pissy angel.

We are not the same.

Coming from someone who played this on the Switch 2 years ago and got frustrated with the game and abandoned it, I'm happy that I picked this up again on Steam. Mouse and Keyboard is significantly more responsive and makes for a more enjoyable experience for me especially with how hard this game is.

Wizard of Legend is a game that can be really hard to enjoy for some people. It has a very steep learning curve thanks to the game's fast paced nature that can only be truly enjoyed to its fullest potential if you have the time and effort to get better.

This game is basically HItstun™ the Roguelite Game. You'll really want to properly utilize hitstun to chain together the most amount of spells possible leaving the enemy with no time to attack, or the game uses it on you as you get swarmed by dozens of enemies while you're unable to do anything. Getting hit is always punishing, as the few ways to regenerate isn't always readily available (not including Fall Cloak). Some people think this is a negative thing, although I'd wholeheartedly disagree. The game is built entirely on the hitstun mechanic and it makes the game very unique. It's literally what's advertised on the steam page: "A no-nonsense fast paced dungeon crawler with roguelike elements that emphasizes quick movements and smart comboing of spells." If you stand in one place like a dumbo, then you'll get punished hard. If you instead utilize the high mobility and the spells and relic combinations the game provides to you then you might just enjoy the game for what it's truly worth.

The only thing I can say bad about this game is how it manages progression for the relics (or items). More than 70% of the game's 293 relics are locked from you during your first 5 hours of playtime. Great relics such as Mobius Quill, Pathfinder's Map, Limited Edition Robe, Secret Wild Card, and ANY FUSION RELICS (excluding Graduation Diploma) are items you cannot find in a run unless you continue to play more. And the relics you do have unlocked when you start playing the game are so incredibly boring (except vamp glasses) and you'll see how this can really hurt the new player experience. Compare this to other similar roguelike games like Risk of Rain 2 where the base items you start with have enough variation that people continue playing that game long enough to unlock the other items.

But it gets worse. You see, all spells and relics have a respective 'pool.' There are 5 pools that are both independent to either spells or relics, with pools 1 and 2 being accessible at the beginning of the game. To advance to the next pool, you have to unlock either a number of spells or relics by purchasing them in the hub with chaos gems, the permanent currency of the game. Of course, most new players gravitate towards unlocking new spells instead of relics because, well, they're spells. This is really evident on the achievements page where 32.3% of players has unlocked the "unlock 50 arcana" achievement while only 18.8% has unlocked the "unlock 50 relics" achievement. Really says a lot about player retention in this game when 80% of all players haven't even unlocked half of all the available relics, which are actually a lot of fun to use and can lead to a ton of build diversity and god runs.

TL;DR: Great game but only if you can keep up with the game's fast-paced nature. High mobility, Spell combos, Item diversity, Difficulty, and Hit stun are what makes Wizard of Legend stand out (also soundtrack). However, the game has a horrible new player experience where you cannot unlock most of the interesting items and spells until about 15-20 hours of playtime. Combined with the steep learning curve, a majority of the people who bought this game don't have the time nor effort to play for that long of an amount. Wizard of Legend is a fun and challenging roguelike, although I can't blame you if you did not enjoy it during your first hours of play.

Worth the buy. Needs Hazard 6 cause I'm a masochist. No seriously, Hazard 5 is getting progressively easier the more experienced the player base becomes and with a few overclocks having gotten significant buffs in the recent patch, Hazard 5 is becoming a cakewalk I can usually beat 95% of the time even with randoms.

Good beginner animation software, has most of the models and assets you need from the workshop so you can go straight to animating.
