Let me tell you about the old days. When we skirmished them with gunfire and arrows to reduce their ranks, then we held them with our infantry and slammed them in with our cavalry.

Total War is a long running franchise made by CA (Creative Assembly.) This franchise is known for the tactical and wide scale gameplay. For those who are not familiar with total war it works like this. The campaign plays like a grand strategy, you have build, recruit, run politics, diplomacy, and warfare each and every turn until you win. When your army engages an enemy are it is brought to more of an RTS setting where you control your army to either annhiliate, defend, or route your enemy. Multiplayer is all about the RTS setting, however, there are ways to play multiplayer campaigns, sadly they are hard to setup.

Pros

-Realistic combat: There is friendly fire, moral levels (enemies, allys, and your army will route if moral is too low), and realistic counter units.

-In depth strategy both multiplayer and single player

-Many factions to choose from

-Looks great for being an older game

-Has historical battles that you can play

-Provides hours of entertainment

Cons

-Can be very difficult to understand

-Pathfinding bugs

-Lacks naval battles

-Units will sometimes ignore your orders, even if they don't have the bonus effect "Will charge without order"


I've played this game nearly 5x as long as Steam says I have. The community is great and the gameplay is amazing. Modding is possible, there is even a Lord of the Rings campaign called "Third age total war." I fully reccomend this franchise to anyone who is into cavalry charges, pelting your enemy with projectiles, or holding out to the last soldier. If you have any interest in Total war, this is the perfect game to try it out. Perhaps we can see each other on the battlefield as friends or foes.
