Serious Review Time:

--Celeste is a great game--

Celeste is not an easy game to complete, but the visuals sure are beautiful. Each scene contains swirling, pixel-oriented environments that you can't help but fall in love with as you make your way through the game. Each dash feels swift and leads you to new and exciting places within a vibrant and colorful universe. The music perfectly complements each environment; this artistic side of the game is definitely an experience in its own right.

Some complain about monotony, however this depends on the player. Each room and stage is drastically different with different color schemes, mechanics, music, etc. The only monotony is brought on by the player's inability to complete a room. The player eventually learns the mechanics and overcomes each challenge to become better at the game.

Part of challenge within Celeste is that you only have a jump, dash, and grab. The difficulty lies within using this simple moveset to complete incredible tasks using the new environmental mechanics brought on by each level such as dashing through cosmic space blocks, bouncing on clouds, or parachuting with an alien jellyfish, there is variety within each level, yet a constant move set; the player continues to better themselves instead of grinding to unlock new moves and upgrades.

Celeste's increasing difficulty throughout each stage provides, at first, an enjoyable introduction to the landscape which leads to a challenging end. With three increasingly difficult variations to each stage, along with a bonus stage, secret crystal hearts in each stage , extra strawberry challenges, and now a DLC stage, Celeste provides plenty of enjoyable content.

I recommend playing through the base game and seeing if you want to continue the challenge from there!

Overall: 9.5/10
