I see what they're going for and I am very excited, EU5 has so much potential. What's here is great, I think it still needs some time in the oven.

I'd say to wait like 3 months for the UI to be polished and the bugs to be ironed out. This may be one of the worst UI's paradox has made in terms of mostly style but also functionality, that could be forgivable, if not for the UI bugs that make that strenuous visual clarity even worse.

I'll change my rating when the UI bugs are fixed, army and naval orders work more than 50% of the time, colonization doesn't take my money but not refund it when the game arbitrarily says that we've abandoned the colony without a reason or warning, levies stop literally disappearing from my armies (not from attrition or losses), infinite bankruptcy, etc. and for the love of god please fix zone of control, having my armies get stuck behind enemy lines because they can pass through but can't get back out is extremely frustrating. I want to play the game, I want to have fun but these things tank my will to play so much.

Update: I made this review at 30 hours of playtime ^
I still stand by what I've said 130 hours later...

It's great! Super faithful to the Paper Mario inspiration. It does enough different to say it really stands on its own. Can't wait for/hope there's gonna be a sequel!

It's not BAD but in my opinion its nothing special...

Was expecting something like Red Dead Redemption 2, it feels more like a Tomb Raider/Far Cry/Horizon Zero Dawn game instead (a lot of busy work, middling side quests, little progression but a lot to collect.) It's okay, but the hype/expectations weren't met for me. Everything being linked to the R2 button is obnoxious, going to switch stance and picking up my 1,745th bundle of supplies off the guy i just killed and getting hit because R2 didn't let me change stance is frustrating and happened pretty often. This being said THE GAME IS ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL the art direction and world can look simply stunning, i found myself just looking at the scenery a lot, plenty of opportunities for fantastic screenshots.

It's very neat! I would totally recommend as a quirky horror themed RPG! You can't beat a price tag like that for a game like this.

It's somewhat spooky but mostly charming, a fun concept for a horror story. You can tell the inspiration comes from games like Earthbound and LISA. I have heard the Fear & Hunger comparison and honestly I think they have very little in common in gameplay and tone, they're both horror RPG's and that's about where the comparisons begin and end in my eyes. It can drum up some creepy imagery and concepts but I wouldn't really say it was all that scary past the 2 hour mark. Most things aren't really out to get you and the monsters that were weren't a very big threat. My only deaths were previous to getting my first companion, after that the game became quite easy (I played on Normal mode).

Edit: Just got all the true endings, I really wasn't expecting these to be as nuanced or terrifying as they were. Look Outside kept me on my toes all the way to the end, great game!
