Honestly, Nightreign is FromSoft's mediocre attempt at making a "roguelike" if you consider Elden Ring with battle royale style circles and scavenging for weapons paired with a sprinkle of rng around the map to be all that's needed to even consider something roguelike. It's a fun experience if you can find friends to play it with as it's completely fine for a souls-like game, it's just a trash tier "roguelike" that is clearly only balanced around one thing, having a squad with 2 other people that you know and can comm with because more often than not you get paired with the most braindead individuals when you try to solo queue.

I'm totally exaggerating as I've had a few decent runs with strangers that didn't even result in a win I just really want them to balance the game more and add the duos mode so I don't have to roll the dice when I only have one friend on and pray for someone who isn't dead weight.

Maybe just avoid comparing it too hard to other roguelikes because you'll end up disappointed that a lot of the mechanics aren't even there. It's more of a roguelite but even still it's hard to see it as that either as the relics system doesn't do much in terms of meta-progression for most of the relics that drop don't make much of a difference. These terms are overused anyways, I saw someone say souls-lite and honestly that's a better term than those other two when it comes to describing what this game even is.

Nightreign is fun enough for me to recommend if you consume the souls-slop like I do, just do your best to avoid the fromsoft glazers who act as if the developer can do no wrong, as there are plenty of valid negative reviews with similar criticisms that I myself have for the game that you should probably read before deciding if it's worth shelling 40 dollars for. Obviously I think its worth it given I hit 'Yes' and not 'No' but just do a little research first so you won't be too disappointed if it isn't what you expected the game to be.

The game is fun but lacks a proper loop in free-to-play when using the loot you obtain in dungeons since any uncommon or higher-tiered gear is pretty much scrap after you extract. (UPDATE: They finally allow you to go into dungeons with uncommon or higher quality gear and queuing is now based on if your gear score is below or above 25)

I also think f2p should at least get two character slots rather than needing to delete a character they like/have leveled a bit to try another. I hope they change these things in some capacity but normal dungeons are still fun.

It's good to see the product return to Steam so those who stopped playing after the earlier playtests and didn't want to buy it outside the platform can finally get back into the dungeons.

I have been following this game since its 2017 reveal trailer. When I had a chance to get a glance of the game when they had lifted the NDA on the PvP it wasn't looking too good. But here we are now, January 2022 and this game is amazing for being in a late stage alpha.

Ready or Not is a tactical shooter that places you as part of a SWAT team that handles missions set in different locations. You complete objectives based on the type of mission you choose for the level, though they each play similarly. The design of each map and the atmosphere they each have are outstanding. The guns and the gunplay are great. Each firefight can be chaotic and punish those that didn't prepare. The available missions range from being slower-paced with the Barricaded Suspects mode to the faster pace and higher-stakes Active Shooter mission type.

While the game is excellent, there are still some issues with it. The SWAT AI can be hard to work with as their pathing is sometimes janky and they sometimes act strange when on a door. The suspect AI is also broken at times. They will sometimes attempt to shoot you through a wall when you enter a room or run away from you after being hit with many less-than-lethal weapons.

Overall, Ready or Not is a great experience (especially with friends) that I think those who like tactical shooter games in a similar vein to the SWAT franchise will enjoy.

Pretty good remaster of a classic.

The multiplayer isn't that great, but that isn't really the main reason anyone was buying this game, now was it?
