It does not get better than this. 10 billion percent recommend

i only give reviews when i have something to say and with the release of 1.0 this has become my favorite vr game. bravo warpfrog.

edit, august 18th 2024: changed back to a thumbs up. the bots in casual are effectively gone and have been for over a month, which is the bare minimum we asked for as a community. valve still sucks but the game can be played again, and the game is worth playing. i leave the old review as a cautionary tale

ive been playing this game consistently since summer 2019. the game has only continued to get worse and more difficult to play despite valve never actually adding any major source of content. its all from the bots and cheaters locking down the most populated form of play on offer. this has gone on for far too long, especially for one of the most influential and fun games ever made. i cannot in good faith recommend anyone play or spend money on this game until something is done.

its a shame this is the best option pc gamers have for dualsense stuff on pc. software works fine for the most part but i cannot recommend it because of the developers. this used to be FOSS and now theyre paywalling versions that reportedly are chockfull of bugs. only get if you must.

my balls itch

not having DLSS 3.0 on older RTX enabled cards is a scam, on top of multiple weird inexplicable texture bugs and ghosting. I was excited for this, but RTX Remix has a while to go before this is stable, and NVIDIA has a while to go before consumers trust them again, if ever.

edit: multiple reviews are saying to change dlss settings, which is true and is something you can do, and its cool to poke around the developer menu. however when i did that (prior to writing this review) that introduced more instability from just changing dlss alone. im not gonna pretend i know ♥♥♥♥ about the inner workings of the tech, because i only have a faint idea. portal rtx is fully rt, not just reflections or global illumination. of course its gonna be intense to run. this isnt some half assed rt. ultimately, portal rtx is a tech demo, and demo it does. it shows rtx remix has a whole to go, and that nvidia's priority with not introducing dlss 3.0 to older, rtx enabled cards, is to make money. this isnt new or exclusive to nvidia, but damn is nvidia blunt about it, and it feels incredibly scummy. i have a 3080, and this is a neat tech demo, but thats it. go play the original
