It's too slow. There's a lot of dead time in which I'm just waiting for villagers to be born, or crop fields to be cleared, with no real challenges to occupy me. The fastest in-game speed isn't very fast. The early game is a serious drag.

But the art style is beautiful, and once you get to that stage of just leaning back and looking at your settlement and appreciating it, it's great.

Phenomenal. A simple game made by one guy but it manages to have depth and enough content to be getting on with.

No early access nonsense and over-promising. Support for mods. This is the scale that all small-time developers should emulate.

Why is this game so popular with the community?

It is absurdly broken, completely unfinished. Rampant game-breaking bugs and a punishing learning curve.

I'm sure that there is an engaging, entertaining game in here somewhere but unless you really love trawling forums / excessive trial and error to understand absolutely any mechanic, give this one a pass until they finish it.

Just not good.

It's the exact same gameplay as Civilization V with a few meta tweaks, but the setting is just not engaging. The characters are shallow and interchangeable with each other. \

To add insult to injury, a few of the technical issues that plagued Civilization V in its early days have returned.

It's the most expensive Civ V expansion, that's all.

I mean come on.

Gameplay got to be a little repetitive and eventually all sense of fear/foreboding vanished and I just wanted to get to the ending.

I found the game incredibly moreish and fun, until I figured out that I could level up insanely fast by joining the same map over and over again. It lost alot of the appeal after that.

Carefully walks the line between satisfying challenging and gamepad-destroyingly infuriating.

Game is good. Would again. A++++++++++++
