It's here on Steam! What an achievement! :D

A nice collectible card game that you can pick up whenever, play whenever, put down, and come back again.

The sci-fi elements, in my opinion, are believable and the designs of the various races are diverse and unique. The 8 races are memorable, and also have plenty of backstory to them (if you choose to play other games of the HD world or read the wiki). As of current, there is no accessible lore to any of the cards, but it looks promising.

Other physical elements have been retained from previous HD games.
  • The visual effects are very basic, but I don't really expect a lot of flashiness at this stage of development (, or much at all). I just think the destruction of a baseship could be dignified with more than dots of orange explosions :P
  • The GUI is different. The playing field in HD Xyth had a lot more negative space, where as HD3 feels more cluttered.
  • I prefer the resource stock GUI from HD Xyth with its solid black/grey instead of the flat black background in the resource stock GUI of HD3.
  • Your personal colour choice of the GUI also appears in the playing field. The chosen colour now outlines each resource type in the stock screen, as well as the option buttons, the End Turn button, the background's gas clouds, and other line dividers. Now the colour gets to me and I have to change it ahahaha! (I think I prefer the more solid End Turn button of HD Xyth.)

In terms of gameplay,
  • I feel that it is a little slow, since activating/deactivating quick play does take time. You can hold Ctrl to temporarily switch, or click to set switch. (HD Xyth displayed card information or energy generation info on mouse hover. However, since this game can be played on android, I suppose that hover feature becomes less of a concern.) Waiting for the explosions of a baseship to finish before being allowed to view the results screen becomes annoying.
  • The introduction of combat boosts and mercenaries made this HD game more varied, although a little more grindy and repetitive. (Well, it's a collectible card game. There has to be grinding involved.)
  • I can only hope that multiplayer will be made available soon.
  • I miss the singleplayer campaigns and the backstories that had appeared in HD Xyth. Being able to progress a level as the fights get harder and you yourself become stronger was enjoyable.

Otherwise, I think it's pretty good, and am waiting for further changes.
