Dicey Dungeons executes a six-sided die to determine the power of your equipment.

Chance and luck-based. If either of those aren't your cup of tea, I recommend that you steer away from this game. It is, after all, a game that uses a die. Should your luck fail you, you'll find yourself unable to act or creating a strategy where any die would benefit you.

Each complete run of the game takes around 30-45 minutes, depending on how fast you are able to defeat your enemies. The first few runs are exciting, delivering new content with each character unlocked. Each character has a gimmick that can either make or break your run depending on how you use your character. Sometimes your build won't work because none of the dice rolled fits the equipment's requirements. That's not even counting how difficult some enemies are with various characters. I lost nine times (not counting the times I chose to redo the run) until I beat the episode.

You are not the only one rolling dice. The enemies have that same function. However, it feels like their rolls are rigged. These enemies are able to meet the needs of most of their equipment, not only once in a while, but more than that. Then you're at one hp and nothing can heal you.

At first, the maps are fun. Then they keep being reused with different enemies. You'll learn where the enemies and items will be. There isn't anything too new about it. Items are randomized with each run, maybe you'll get something you like one time and not get it another time. The builds can end up being precarious and cause you to lose the round before you meet the boss.

Bosses are randomized for each run. Sometimes you'll get paired up with a horrible boss that counters all of your character's abilities and they still end up getting high rolls or other times you'll be lucky. When your build is amazing and you obliterate a boss, it's a fantastic feeling. On the other hand, the boss can obliterate you.

Aside from the fact that the dev is constantly updating and informing the audience, the game is pretty solid. It can be thoroughly unfair and frustrating, but those high points are very high. The ost is a jam and captures the feeling of a show very well. The style is almost simple, but there are nuances that keep it fresh. It can get old fast unfortunately with the lack of new maps or having to repeat an episode multiple times.

If you're patient and your stubbornness allows you to persevere, give the game a try for a couple of rounds. See what build you can make. No two runs are the same, but they can be similar. Happy rolling!

Early Access Review
For being an early-access game, it surely has its life together. I haven't run into any bugs as far as I know. There is so much text that has been given love and personality. You could miss small things that changes the path the player takes, giving it more replay value. You don't learn to love the characters, you get to love the characters for all their nuances. Even if you spend five minutes, you get a sense of fondness for them. The game has proper use of music, but if you get forget what you're supposed to do then you get lost and get frustrated.

I won't say that I didn't get annoyed. Merely I got lost because I passed through the text too fast. Still, I wasn't that annoyed, there is so much to explore anyway.

The battle portion, or could you call it battle, is a set of mini games with not set order. It keeps you on your toes and doesn't get tiring. It also goes smoothly.

The character moves at the same speed the whole game. If it's for story purposes, then kudos, but walking at the same speed while backtracking and not understanding where to go is a bit annoying.

Regardless, this game is worth your time. Maybe you won't run into the same problems as I did, but each to their own. Its music, story, characters, and so on are fantastic to go through.

I first saw the game when I watched a youtuber play it. I got really invested in it when I saw it, so a few months later I actually got it to see how my feelings for it would hold. I was not disappointed. I'm not the most specialized person when it comes to the mechanics, so I will focus mostly on the story.

Usually people would think this would be a joke game, and it technically is! It's light, it's colorful, it has the sterotypical anime-style of art, and bird boys that take to the screen. It becomes a surprise when it begins to deviate from one's expectations of being daft. One begins to adore the characters and love them as if they are real. They can be realistic, though I admit some are a bit far-fetched, but it has it's own charm I suppose.

I do recommend to play the game if you have the chance. It's hilarious and light-hearted mostly. You may get invested in the game and yearn for more. Some endings are interesting, some could be better, but they kind of knit together and you learn more about the character. Oh, and if you dislike the same music playing too frequently, you can always play your own in the background, albeit the soundtrack is good.

So, it's your decision. If you play it, I hope you enjoyed the game as much as I did and have some laughs or some cries because of the game.
