Until Then è uno di quei giochi che non si limitano a raccontare una storia: ti distruggono e ti ricompongono, più volte, lasciandoti qualcosa addosso che fatica ad andarsene.

È un viaggio emotivo incredibile, di quelli che tutti dovrebbero vivere almeno una volta. Nonostante la grafica 2D e lo stile retrò, riesce a farti provare sentimenti reali, autentici, con una forza sorprendente. Dimostra che non servono grandi produzioni o realismo spinto per colpire nel profondo: bastano le emozioni giuste, raccontate nel modo giusto.

Questo non è un gioco per chi cerca azione o adrenalina. È un gioco per chi vuole provare qualcosa. Ti trasporta, ti insegna e, in un certo senso, ti cambia. Riesce persino a diventare un’esperienza quasi mistica, affrontando con delicatezza e maturità temi fondamentali come la vita, l’amore e l’amicizia.

La storia è attuale nonostante una cornice distopica: parla di problemi quotidiani, di scelte difficili, di cose che sappiamo essere giuste o sbagliate ma che spesso sono terribilmente difficili da cambiare. Lo fa usando lo sci-fi non come protagonista, ma come strumento narrativo. Ed è proprio per questo che ci si immedesima così tanto nel personaggio: perché quello che vive, in fondo, potrebbe essere chiunque.

Un aspetto fondamentale da sottolineare è che il gioco sembra concludersi a un certo punto, mostrando dei titoli di coda. Ma Until Then non finisce lì. È essenziale andare avanti, perché è solo dopo che inizia la vera esperienza: la storia cambia, evolve e prende significato nelle run successive.

Alla fine resta un amaro in bocca. Ma non è un amaro ingiusto o forzato. È quello più difficile da accettare, perché dentro di te sai che la storia non poteva che andare così.

Until Then è uno di quei giochi che ti porterai nel cuore per molto tempo. Non perché ti abbia fatto divertire, ma perché ti ha fatto sentire.

The immersion is relentless. every zone has a unique character, every line draws your interest. For me, it is in the top tier of the best games of the last decade. After years of the same formula, safe development, risk-averse design, Clair Obscur differentiates itself by returning to the early-2000’s hallmark of brave, character-driven games.

The ultra-detailed graphics also stand out as defining, with the clarity in textures, lighting, and bold graphics forming the commanding vistas highlighted in the game’s art and their exploration and combat angles.

The gameplay loop delivers gratifying combat, captivating exploration, and animation-rich gameplay both in combat and the graphics.

- Rewarding progression and punchy combat (while the balance holds).

Cons:

- Balance can undercut challenge if you do too much optional content.
- Late-game tension may sag if you arrive overbuilt.

Verdict: a standout return to narrative-first design and, in my opinion, one of the decade’s best. Nudge the difficulty up a notch and enjoy a journey that sticks with you well past the credits.
