I am not one to write reviews of games, and even worst that I finished the game fully at 3 AM in the morning, but we die for powerful story-telling games. If I could just say one thing to recommend this game its this, Its one of those things you can experience one time. Spoiler Free Review

Story:

It took me a while to realize but Until Then is actually my first visual novel I have ever played, and I am so glad that it is my first one. The story has been one of the best stories I had ever had the pleasure of playing along with, the story does an amazing job connecting you to the characters, their happy and sad moments, their insecurities, fears, perseverance, and resolve really wants you to cheer for the best for them and that they will get through their journey.

The game does a very good job making these characters act their age and how teenagers would most likely react to the situations they are thrown in, although I was honestly more interested in the central themes of love, friendship, loss, grief, and finally acceptance. I believe these themes and the way they are used really help connect us to characters as all of us at one point of our lives have experienced one of these themes ourselves.

One other thing I liked was the phone, the phone was an absolutely innovative and unique way to connect the side characters, (the game’s) politics, world-building, and other fun things together and create an even more fleshed out overall story.

I even went as far as clicking on random articles and seeing where it would take me. You heard me, I spent time reading fictional articles of a fictional world, in a fictional story. Pretty damn good article too.

Characters:

It is my firm belief that there is a character for everyone in this game.

Do you want a sports jock who’s energetic and acts like a total goofball? Have Ryan. You want a quiet girl who acts like a total jerk but through cracks you can see she might be nice? Have Kate. How about a determined and aspiring director, who is working hard to have his work be recognized? Have Ridel.

My top three favorite characters has to be Cathy, Sophia, and Mark, Sophia is the oddball out the three here, I love her more for her peppy and excited personality, I loved every scene I was with her and honestly when I saw her walking animation I just knew she was gonna be my top 3 favorites, she reminds me of Mabel from Gravity Falls a lot. Mark and Cathy on the other hand, oh boy, there's a lot I want to say but I want to remain spoiler free.

Cathy is THAT character for me, she’s my comfort character and one of my new favorite characters, all of her struggles and challenges throughout the story really resonated with me and I couldn’t help but always wish the best for her, crying for her, and I hope all good things go to my raccoon queen (she reminds me of a raccoon)

Mark is another character that I happen to find myself gravitating towards, I find his struggles and challenges to be very resonating as well but what I like from Mark is his determination and grit, his way to try and fix things and the way he critically thinks about his situation and to find a solution is very admirable. Despite his shortcomings and failures, he still finds a way to find himself, pick himself back up, and keep on fighting for what he knows is right.

Visual/Music:

I for one, am not very good at talking about these parts of games, but here's my personal opinion on these two topics.

I for one can 100% say for certain that Until Then’s art direction is phenomenal, I can’t say for certain how many games follow this kind of pixelated art style, but I can see that Until Then has their own unique take of the pixelated ways. I can find myself just simply staring at the scenes and be at awe at their work. What I can say that their attention to detail is amazing, what I like more than looking at the big scenes is looking at the smaller details in some areas, like the subway/town, Outside Mark’s house, the school. These small details also help put additional depth and wonder of the overall story.

I for one am not usually interested in Until Then’s type of music, that is not to say that Until Then’s music isn’t good for it, because it really is super amazing, its just I wouldn’t put it in my liked playlist and listen to it all day. Until Then’s music is such a blessing into the ears while playing the game. Two of my favorites has to be “Time is Tearing Us Apart” and "Sorrow" by Kyle Patrick Naval

End Thoughts:

I do believe that the $20 price tag is worth the absolutely amazing story you will have the pleasure of playing through, I truly truly recommend this game if you happen to find it on a deal If you are looking for a high-quality story telling game with amazing cast of characters and a world that so beautiful and rich of story, culture, people, and the way of life. If I wasn’t sleep deprived I would’ve cried at the ending, 10/10 game.

If you are playing on desktop then game is fine... since you are not immerse into it you dont really feel scared. Since the Exposition I noticed that they definitely upgrade many of the items and ghost, and "professional" actually feels like professional and not like how it was before. VR is a different story if you are playing alone all you here is the ambient noises around you and the darkness makes it feels scary. but overall I would 7/10 this game due the facts that the game does have bugs they do need to fix and hopefully they will soon (theyre not game breaking, its just slight annoyances)
