Beautiful.

I will preface this by stating that I'm not much of a reviewer, but I will at least convey my thoughts and experiences.

Rare is it that I experience any form of media which can bring out actual emotional response than this game. It's soundtrack is near unparalleled in this department. For me it had me look inward to myself on more than one occasion, whether that be for joy, sadness, hope, or futility. Along with the gorgeous artwork, along with carefully crafted prose, it is engaging no matter what you're doing.

The writing and the story, no matter which way you choose to develop it, is fantastical and alluring, making you want to come back and continue. Everything is presented in a way that is uniquely not 'human' which is something that games do not often convey. The motivations, the reasoning, and in-character thoughts are there to make you remember that you're playing as a Drak throughout his/her life. Everything is still presented so as to make logical sense, but it is refreshing to have the game also explain that these are your instincts, your mind is supposed to process this differently. It still gives understandable reasoning, but simply from a different angle.
After this realization, you can live your best and fullest! ... Until you die.
Which, you will die, likely at a young age. You are a wild creature, in a wild world, that which despite holding reverence towards life, brings about the truth about it also being very violent.
There are two continues, which rewinds time from before whatever felled you, but after that you must begin life anew. Thankfully, with the stages of life presented as chapters, there is the option to choose that if you wish or to start at the very beginning from birth. Along with this a progression system exists, so that you can come back stronger, or rearrange your masteries and abilities to something more preferable.

At least, until you die... and, you will most likely die once. You have two continues, but after that you must start over. This is not a game that you will find yourself finishing quickly in one sitting, even if you do manage to somehow complete it in one play.
Then you can continue through life! Be warned however, for just like in real life, you will not have time to do everything you want. There is that ever-looming shadow that the seasons change, and you must plan for this fact, while keeping it at a pace that still allows you to explore and enjoy the world.

There are a few endings, each of which have a fulfilling conclusion. The 'hidden' path is among the most thought-provoking, in that it invokes a state of philosophy which is simply impossible for us, or any living creature, to imagine. It's a line of thinking which everyone, at one point in their life, questioned. I cannot say much more on that without spoiling.

Having not played through many visual novels, I am unsure if this is true or not, but I certainly did not expect a combat system. It is turn-based, so there is no rush with planning. It has a good level of RNG to keep things interesting, though you will begin to learn patterns of who will do what. Which is working as intended- you specifically learn more about the world around you and how to better anticipate how to tackle any particular adversary.

My one gripe with the game, is that it would be helpful to have a skip function to go through scenes you have already witnessed, either due to having died or simply in the next playthrough. As fantastic as the writing is, some scenes can be long in part by having branching paths of conversation. Not just a speed-up text, but to fully skip a section, and if there is an important story-changing decision, simply take it to that and then move on.

But yes, that is my take on it.
Golden Treasure: The Great Green is one of the strongest recommendations I could give with full confidence that the experience will indeed be a golden one.

I feel as lf this game fell under the radar. It was well publicized, but after release, it just about disappeared. Most Sonic games, however, never disappear for about a year later as people continually complain how terrible it was.

There was none of that for Sonic Generations, save for those who wished to keep with the stigma despite it being entirely unfair. I can understand how individuals would be upset for poor keyboard controls, but it is -still- useable, and certainly much more intuitive than say Dark Souls: PC.

Either way, what I'm saying, if you liked the old Sonic games you should get this. If you didn't like the new ones, well, this game still certainly has something to help keep you interested in the 'new' factor. Really, it's not as bad as it seems like it should be.

This game will have you hooked for hours, and that's honestly no lie. The game doesn't take itself seriously, and it knows that, and plays off that the entire time which definitely makes for an enjoyable experience; the humor doesn't get old as it has so many jokes and references.
The gameplay itself might not be what you expect from a Roguelike-- it's not as complicated. However that doesn't make a bad rogue-like by any means, as the core mechanics are certainly there: you're gonna die and die and DIE until the game feels bored with you... and then will kill you at the final boss anyways, because well hey, it's a Roguelike and that's just what they do.
You'll be playing this game for hours, trying to figure out what is the best combination of skills for your liking, how the enemies work, and what items do what and how they even do that. It's jolly good fun, the expansion is entirely worth it... and this, on complete, is less than eight dollars. It's literally a steal.
