Although I have limited experience with the Roguelite genre as a whole, I would be quick to recommend this game to anyone curious enough to, well, enter the Gungeon. As the title implies, the game takes on a lighter tone compared to other well-known Roguelites, with caches of gun puns to spare and vibrant colors throughout the Gungeon. Even with 200 hours under my belt, there are still collectibles, synergies and secrets I have yet to discover. No run is the same as the last, with new room layouts being unveiled just when you thought you seen them all. While one specific item or gun could easily make the Gungeon a breeze, you'll find yourself itching to try out the other countless guns you grabbed on the way, even if the "gun" ends up being a baseball bat. The game heavily references pop culture in its guns, items, synergies, and even bosses, so there will inevitably be a reference you understand. As for running the game, I see it run better than most of the other games I've played on my laptop, though a bit of lag is to be expected, especially when bullets flood the screen.

That isn't to say that the game doesn't miss a few shots it fires. Some guns and items are outright incompatible with each other: a rocket that explodes on impact combined with an item that makes your shots pierce enemies doesn't do well in killing bosses, unfortunately. If this comes up, you might have to leave some items in the hands of that no-good rat, and regardless of how negatively you thought of that item, the rat's memento will leave you far more enraged. Some of the Gungeon secrets are nigh impossible to find without a guide, intuition, or luck, and a player going in blind will easily be in for many rude awakenings. Some characters have a heavy reliance on luck to get a good gun early on to make up for their inaccurate starter guns, while others are especially unforgiving when it comes to getting hurt, though getting hurt in general is rather punishing to the player. Finally, I've had one gun in particular lag my game noticeably when I use it: Mr. Accretion Jr. The particle effects left after it fires cause a great deal of lag. Disappointing, as I greatly enjoy the weapon and its effects, but enjoy moving at a reasonable frame rate much more.

All in all, Enter the Gungeon is great for someone looking for time to kill and willing to spend time correcting past mistakes and improving for the future. A rather fitting mindset to have when your goal is to kill the past, no?
