I often don't know what to write here to here's something actually useful to put here:

I add a lot of people! I have 100+ people on my Steam friend's list and often add them for a quick conversation after we had a good moment in a game. :UltimateRaccoon: After that, we tend not to communicate.

So, if you are one of those people and would like to keep me added, go ahead.
But if you don't remember why you added me or perhaps you simply don't want to keep me added: feel free to remove me! No hard feelings! :praisesun:

--- Scam Advice --

I am an indie dev. However, you should never assume people asking you to test their game are real people acting in good faith. Sadly, pretending to be an indie dev and tricking people into downloading malicious files is a common scammer trick. Guess how I learned that? Asking Steam friends to test my game because I don't have any playtesters.

So, here's some in-the-know online safety tips:

1. Simply put, ask how they know you. While I don't remember why I have everyone added, there's still a lot of people I COULD give a very specific answer to. This is the easiest way.

2. Every single indie dev could effortlessly get you screenshots of their game in-editor, including outright saying your username inside the game on the fly. I could do this in UE5 for you in seconds, no problem. In fact, the best thing you could do is ask them to stream the editor over Discord. (Warning: consider that some scammers actually do have an asset flip game so this might not work.)

3. If it's a legitimate game, they probably have it on Steam. A game does not need to be visible on the marketplace to be downloadable through steam. If it's anywhere near beta testing, they probably have a branch set up for testing purposes anyway. Developers can easily get keys for beta testers- it doesn't cost us anything, we just have to request them. Point being, they can give you a key to redeem. (However, I wouldn't call this scam-proof. I simply do not trust Steam to properly verify if a game is safe or not. That being said, you have to pay Steam 100$ to put your game up and your average scammer probably isn't doing that.)

4. Indie devs who already have a game out (or just have their ♥♥♥♥ together) likely have a professional account they could swap to and prove themselves with.

5. ^Any real small-time indie dev is absolutely willing to go through these hoops for you without getting upset because getting playtesters is hard enough, and getting actual feedback is even worse. I had 250+ people download my game when I posted a demo to itch, only 10 did the form I made, only 7 of those were actually valid, and maybe 5 were useful. I doubt many of these were random people discovering the game, either. These were people I sent there from posting around outright asking for people to please give feedback.

Feel free to shoot me a message if you found this useful. I'd like to know if anyone reads this anyway.

...Also please review any indie games you play. Good or bad review, it helps.
