This video game saved my marriage.

Our relationship has never gotten this bleak. After six extremely shaky months, everything collapsed a few weeks ago and I stayed at my mothers for a few days. I found a Brene Brown video talking about using “we” and “us” language when facing serious marital challenges, so my wife and I reconnected and I came back home. We didn’t know how to rekindle our conversation so we did what we did our first date: play pixel gun 3d (it’s an incredible game).

The game made us laugh, cry, cooperate, challenge each other, and serendipitously had elements of several games we’ve played (Crash Bash, Kirby, Borderlands, etc). Every single game mode made us come closer and closer. At the end of our session, we sobbed and I hadn’t felt this close to my wife in months. We discussed different challenges about our irl relationship through each game mode and round. It was unexpected couples counseling that we will bring up to our therapist (lol).

I’m so grateful for the writers, artists, developers, and all who played a part in this game. It will stick with me forever.
