Walking speed is too slow. Even the increased movement speed is like watching granpy try and get to the desert table before all the pudding cups are gone. They should rename the game to Grandpa Walking Simulator.

This was my childhood. I used to love and still love these games. Even though I was never (and am still not) any good at them. ;D

In this game you recruit warriors and such to fight for you, sounds neat in concept but it is really easy to lose track of where you actually are in all the people and enemies running around everywhere. The upgrades you can purchase after each round are not balanced very well, the majority of them add upgrades but at the reduction of something else. There are bats that fly at you after a few levels that are relatively impossible to avoid. They are more like heat seeking missiles than bats and dying to them is very discouraging because it doesn't seem like there is really any way to avoid them other than getting lucky that one of your defenders isn't already fighting an enemy when they start flying toward you.

This game gives me brotato vibes but it's just not fully realized. I believe the concept is sound but the people fighting for you need to be buffed more and the enemy difficulty needs to be ramped up more slowly.

In-game time goes by way too fast. I was wandering around and then my character passed out. I went to wander around some more and it felt like no time at all and my character passed out again. Really annoying mechanic.

This game is a buggy POS. I lost progress by getting stuck/movement locked in a corner at least three times while attempting to play it.

The original evoland is a bit clunky but neat enough to complete.

Evoland 2 on the other hand is like the developer got a whiff of their own farts and couldn't get enough of them.

You start out with the narration telling you what you do and do not want to do and telling you that you enjoy certain aspects of the game. Then the game gives you the option to say no to npc's requests which is a completely pointless addition to the game because you have to say yes to them or the game will not progress. The intro cut-scene is not skippable and it drags on and on and doesn't actually tell you anything important. Instead of getting upgrades to the graphics by opening chests, like in the first evoland, it starts as a faux 8-bit gameboy green and then immediately switches to a 16-bit snes style aesthetic but you have 8 direction movement capability from the the very start.

Evoland 2 really rubbed me the wrong way in a manner I can only describe as an overly enthusiastic guy sitting down at the table beside you and trying to chat you up and when you don't share his interest in conversing he gets butt-hurt and turns all righteous indignation and starts telling everyone to avoid you because you are mean, cruel, and uncaring. Then when you continue to avoid conversation with him he starts talking to you like you are some kind of sexually deviant doorknob. All in all it wronged me the rub way.

This is a very niche game, it's bigger than you would think it would be but not much bigger. Certain elements get a touch repetitive (not the dish washing part, the computer is the key!) but overall it's a pretty solid game. It gives me a SCP themed, you're a D-Class testing an anomalous space sort of vibe so anything that is in it, story-wise, is exactly as it should be (like how one of the computer prompts says "your" instead of "you're"). I would say to check it out if you are into enclosed spaces and a creepy atmosphere.
