"You are playing a challenging and unforgiving game, you will not be led by the hand"

The strongest feats of this game are it's immersive atmosphere and non-linearity. People tend to look down on top-down games (pun intended), but I'd say this game has made this it's discerning feature. It stands out from the tons of First Person Horror Amnesia-like games of recent years, that gives you a linear way to follow, some stuff scattered around to grab along the way, and call it a "Survival"

From the start of the game, you are only given a really vague direction, and left to fend for yourself, which really sets the tone for the rest of the game. As you cannot afford to stop scavenging throughout the game, the survival genre is taken to it's fullest, given there is no "better way to survive" and the non-linear nature of this game makes it so you can completely ignore what looks like the main storyline, and focus on crafting and improving your hideouts and tools, at the same time that the resource shortage of the areas will push you to uncover the dark secrets of the forests as all roads leads deeper into the woods. This game manages to keep you on your toes at all times, without relying on jumpscares and such. It is all about the perfect blend of game mechanics, art design and storytelling, thinking about it now, it's hard to understand how a top-down game, can be so immersive, and so terrifying.

I could go on and on, but if i go any further I might spoil the experience. The only problem I saw with this game is the option to play on "Normal Mode", which disables the permadeath and takes some of the tension away, and yet it feels weird to criticize a game for a feature that is optional.

I just feel like I can't recommend this game hard enough, it is certainly worth a lot more that it is being sold for.
